By the by, thanks for the shout-out to my column. I haven't updated for a couple of months (well, until last week) and had started to wonder if anybody was ever actually reading it anyway

Half the time, I find my players want to do this really intense style of planning for travel, investigations, whatnot, and the other half they just want to show up and see what happens. And this will be the same players doing it to me, making it very difficult for me to predict their behaviour in that regard.

As a player, I'm almost always wanting to simply show up, start wandering, not bother planning. Well, unless I'm playing Battletech, in which case every inch of the road there gets planned for and at least one alternate plan is created, just in case.
