I have a better opinion about this idea, than about the article, but even the latter is just a better lie/illusion.
And in my point of view, crafty lies are still lies and I don't think they do the job on the long run. My addition follows: let's consider PC-s intelligent enough to see through the illusions once in a while as well as to understand the limits of an adventure (and the medium (RPG)). Sometimes it's neccessary to say something like "Hey guys, please stay on the map!"
