View Full Version : Artist seeks script

I'm a relative newcomer to freelance illustration and I want to expand my skill set. Has anyone out there got a script or story that they want turning into a comic for free? This is just an experiment for myself to see if I can manage it. It won't be a full time or full on thing, it doesn't even have to be a full story, I just need something to illustrate. I grew up on comics (2000ad mainly) and have always wanted to do one of my own. Failing this does anyone have any suggestions on something I could do short of writing my own, which I don't really have time or patience to do. Check out my stuff at the address below

Try the 2000ad website, where they post scripts for artists to try.
I think its www.2000adonline.com, but it shouldn't be hard to find. Good luck!

I didn't know that. As it happens I would love to work for 2000ad and this is why I'm doing it! I recently was given a load of back progs and thought, "I could do that" Thanks for the tip!

Not a problem.
Be warned though, Tharg does not pull his punches in his comments for failed submissions! ( I know I have had enough of them!). Prepare your ego for a bashing. ( or prepare to become instantly rich and famous, with the world at your feet as you relaunch "Mean Team". Or something...)

If you would be interested, I had started a storyline a few years back that a friend of mine who was an art student graduate was going to do the art for, but he became too busy trying to start up his own studio. So, if you would be interested in doing the artwork for it I'd love to finally see the words and plot turned into good art.

...I do have something, if you'd be interested.
I (and many friends helping me) am working on a RPG, something I thought up and we tried once just for fun, and they have told me they would really like to see it as a real book.
As an intro, I was hoping to insert four or five pages of 'comic' to tell a bit of the atmosphere and the story.
If you'd like to try something like this, drop me a line. I'd like it if you would consider it, so maybe the book looks almost publishable artwise as well. ;)
Good luck with it where ever else you decide to try,
Asbjørn.

You wait ages for one...then three come along at once!
I'm interested, very interested but I will have to finish the first one before I take on the next. I don't have time to devote myself full time to these projects as I'd like to but I would still like to do them. So it will take a while but I'll do them and anymore I can scrounge.
The best thing to do is mail me the outlines of what you want, e.g. Genre, length, format (colour/ black+white), and anything else you think relevant.
OK, let's make some comics people!
Okay, question for you, Noel? What kind of stuff do you like to illustrate and how much detail do you want? I've got a handful fo script treatments I could easily hammer out and send off fairly soon, but the question is: what kind of stuff do you want?
Do you want detailed panel by panel or general page layouts? Dialouge? Character design (i.e. how much visiual input do you want to have in the creation of the "look" of a charact?" Also, genre....I'd hate to send you mystery if you prefer to work in sci-fi or superheroes if you want horror.
I've done some rpg and short fiction work and would love to test out some comic style stuff but I don't want to bore you with scripts that don't focus on what you want to draw, I always figured that hurt the artist-writer relationship.
My email's chanyaokuai@aol.com you can contact me there or here if you want to talk about it more.

Thanks to all that have responded to this plea but I have too many to do now. When I get through the ones I have already I will make another appeal but for the time being please don't send anything unless you are either willing to wait a while or pay me.
Sorry but thanks again.:(

Another place that has stories and details looking for artists is the works at the Kargatane (http://www.kargatane.com/).
They work with unofficial supplements to the Ravenloft campaign world. The quality is good amateur quality, and some of the work put in there has led to professional projects (at WotC and Arthaus, no less).
It's probably a good way to get recognized.
