View Full Version : spurious self indulgence

Today I have mostly been drawing/painting this. My eyes hurt, quite a lot, but I think it was worth it.
It's an illustration for a set of LARP rules that I'm illustrating for some friends.
The setting is a very dark fairy tale world, where all sorts of grim things happen in the dead of night. Its very well written, and has fired my imagination. I would love them to produce a table top version of the setting, but I don't think either of them is prepared to sell their house to pay for it. Which is a shame.
Hope you like it
I definitely like this--there's something very unsettling about it, and the style of the art really brings home the "fairy tale with a whiff of rot" setting.
Whoa--that didn't come out right--I don't mean to imply that your picture has a whiff of rot about it :o Only that I can imagine the setting very clearly, a world where on the surface it may appear idyllic, but there's something very wrong there.
I'd love to see more.

Honestly, I do have better things to do...ok, so maybe I don't!
Your kindness is rewarded.
I'd love my art to stink of rot. That would be cool.
Here's a scary fairy tale happening. This works quite nicely if you scroll down once its loaded ( if your browser has the same size windows as mine)
Thanks for the compliments, appreciated more than you know!

Jon--
Your stuff looks to be exactly the sort of style we'd be looking for in artwork for the upcoming 2nd edition of UnderWorld.
Do you think you might be interested?

Holy moley, those are just both sweet illos.
*sigh* the competition is getting rough around here <g>. Friendly I hope!
Actually, I really liked getting my ass kicked. I'm striving to do better in my stuff because of the quality that I'm seeing here.

You're too kind by far Storn. Plus you're too hard on yourself! Getting your ass kicked - don't make me laugh - my tiny illustration boots cant reach your shins nevermind your ass!
RPG.net is such a sweet place to get some attention for your work, especially now we can add attachments.
Nothing but friendly competition from this end. And I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what you post!
Regards amigo!
PS I want to put this smiley in - no reason, just look at its face:
 Makes me laugh (simple things for simple minds. It looks like a Dark Crystal Pod Person)

I wish I could do pics like that. My "cell" comes close but not so....rotting:confused: Have you got your stuff on epilogue? I think it would be worth putting it on. It's (mostly) the best of the industry. http://www.epilogue.net

Oh wow. Pardon my drool, please - those are fantastic!

Elissa, thanks for your drool. Appreciated.
Noel, cool piece. You're in Blackburn? I'm in Worksop. Good grief, we're cosmopolitan.
There may be a slight dip in the frenzied pace of my self promotion, as I suddenly find myself with too much work - sigh, same old story, nothing for two weeks, then five come along at once! Still, I'm not complaining!
Thanks to everyone for their support and job offers.

Congrats on the workload. Share with us when you and if you can. Drop us a line if you need to commiserate!
I'm trying to get companies to allow me to post on public forums such as these. Hey, its free advertising for them and their products (as well as for me). But I urge all artists to ask first.
I've done about 5 finishes, and 3 more sketches that I cannot post due to the company's strident wish that I do not post stuff.

I love your colors, Jon H, they give the pictures a great melancholy feel. I loves that :)
And the other posters were right on the mark about the first piece (my favorite of the two), it nails that "fairy tales were all about dark, bloody stuff, not happy morals and princesses and unicorns" feeling.
You should try getting in touch with Key 20 about doing work for Little Fears.

Thankyou, glad you enjoyed looking.
Just to let you know I have emailed Key 20, and am awaiting a response. I've learned not to hold my breath as companies are very often busy with other things like writing, or selling books! Cheers for the tip, though.
PS I just animated my avatar. How cool it is to find I have software to do this kind of thing!;)

Hey Jon, they're not doing their homework if they don't pick you up. I checked out their site some time ago and, yah, your work would be great there. Anyway, "break a leg" as they say and, hey, let's see some more posts when you got the time.

Eric, appreciate it.
You know I'm really glad to be an artist, because here at RPGnet the artists are really supportive of each other. The writers - woah. God forbid you're just starting out and you're a bit green!!!
If anyone's interested I have posted a section of a drawing I did for Tower Games, in their new thread over on Ads/promo. It aint new, but it's there!
Cheers all
