Overview: Looking for 1/4 or possibly 1/2 page art (prob. b+w) of an armed "everyman" defender standing in a doorway, back to viewer, ready to die to protect whatever's behind him. Should be slightly understated and stylized.
Rates: Flexible, say $25 - $50 depending on quality, size, detail, etc. But negotiable.
___
Details: Unbroken Games is just starting up and we're looking to commission the first piece of art for our upcoming game of monsters invading the modern world.
The game is currently in development and we'd like some visuals that represent the themes of game for the website we're building. Grin. Like I said, we're just starting out.
About the game:
This is a game of childhood monsters sprung to life and stalking city streets. Of mythology suddenly made real. Of society reeling and scientists scratching their heads. This is a game of horror and dread...but not despair.
For all of you who thrill when Jesse Ventura hysterically unloads his chain gun in Predator, when the tanks finally show up in Reign of Fire, when Ripley at last steps out in the power loader in Aliens, this game follows in those footsteps. . .
Desperate heroes defend our world and way of life. It is a time of fear and great courage. But we will prevail.
What we’re looking for: A 1/4 (1/2 page possible) page piece of art that represents this theme of grim heroes staving off disaster. What we're envisioning is an image of a figure standing in a doorway, facing outside, his back to us, gun in hand. The strong implication is he's the only thing standing between whoever's in the room and oncoming horrors.
While we're very much open to interpretations, we originally saw the figure as somewhat obscured, whether a silhouette/shadow, washed out by an unseen spotlight outside, or simply illustrated in a hazy style. But that's just an idea. Maybe it should be a very realistic and clear piece. Maybe the door is closed and he's still inside, (although probably harder to evoke "oncoming horrors" with that, but you guys are good, so whatever works). As long as the mood is captured, we'll be thrilled.
As far as what the figure is doing, well, he could just be standing there, could be reloading, getting prepared, whatever. But the tone of the image should be steady determination, not panic. Something terrible is coming at this door and you take some comfort that this man is here, ready to die before he lets it pass.
How you imply the approaching menace and what it is is up to you. But whatever it is, it should be serious - no Akira stuffed animal monsters or evil clowns or that kind of thing. Understatement might be the key here, but if you need to be explicit, go for it.
Terms: $25 - $50 depending on quality, size, etc. Leaning towards b+w but will consider color and will up rates if needed. We'll pay half up front (after discussing piece and, if needed, maybe seeing a rough sketch to get an idea of what you're thinking) and half on completion. Deadline is flexible. Also open on rights - at minimum, we need rights to post it on a website and eventually in print, not necessarily exclusively (but that would be nice).
If you're interested or have any questions, just send me a PM or email me at bsurette@gmail.com Portfolios are fine at this point.
