View Full Version : Where to look for free/cheap art?

I am not looking for artists to work for free but considering the number of folks popping up in this forum looking for just that I thought it would be helpful to create a resource thread.

So, where are requests for free/cheap art calls tolerated and/or welcome?

I honestly do not know. I will say this, we get a lot of milage out of clipart.com. There is a membership fee but it is very reasonable and has preety good clip art.

Please, do not debate the merits of free work. That is better served in this thread. (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=144119)

Hey Bill,

Here's the best one I've come across ENWorld artists (http://www.enworld.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=55) , I'm sure Ads/Promo would be perfect for it as I suggested.
I'm pretty sure out there in the comic forums there are subforums too.

EDIT: For cheap art, I believe the consensus was that it is fine on this forum... so far as something is offered in compensation for work.
Thele is a prime example of this.

There are a number of clip art collections available on RPGnow, targeted to specific genres that I understand give a lot of milage for the money.

There are also a ton of clipart books available in bookstores. The Dover ones have a lot of variety.

Amateur art can be found at Elfwood. They have a bulletin board where people can post art requests.

There's also an amateur art forum at ENworld, I believe, where there might be some folks interested in donating artwork.

Hey HinterWelt,

Alea Publishing Group produces APG Studio Companion Vol. I (http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=2070) which contains 50 copyright free images by well know to make copyright free images copyright to your company. It is only $5.00.

It is mostly knightly images at this point but other companions will follow.
