So, as requested, here is the actual play thread for my Buffy series. No title for the series yet, we'll see what I come up with as it progresses. I'll post the first episode here, then the second in the next post.

Some character background: Two players. Lin, who hasn't thought of a name for her character yet, so I'll refer to her as Lin. She's playing a girl who was raised by a Watcher after her parents were killed. They were demon hunters, she doesn't know how they died, he's never actually told her. She's got a secret, that she's part-demon, due to some experiments performed on her mother while she was pregnant. However Lin doesn't know what will happen to her yet, and her character of course doesn't know about it. The second player is ChristinaShe's playing a stereotypical goth chick named Shadow(not the name her parents gave her) Raised by normal parents who don't undeerstand her. She knows a bit about the occult and such, due to a small collection of books she's collected.

Note: The episodes are kinda short as we don't get a whole lot of time to play them(3-4 hours). Plus learning the new system(one player played Vampire extensively a few years ago, the other player hasn't played much of anything) takes some time. However with them typed out they seem much longer.

Episode One: Sticks & Stones.

We open up on Sunnydale High, a normal day of classes. Morning, and our two characters have decided to cut classes. Imagine stereotypical goth chicks. They go and sit under a tree by the playing field to read, draw, and talk about how much they hate the cheerleaders.

The football team comes out to practice, and some quips are thrown their way from the girls. Suddenly a scream is heard from the locker rooms. Everyone rushes in to see what's happened, and find that a body has been discovered. A girl-one of the cheerleaders-lying dead on the girls' locker room floor, her spine ripped out. The spine is nowhere to be seen.

School is cancelled, and everyone who saw the body is instructed to report to the councellors tomorrow morning. Shadow goes for a walk before heading home, and Lin heads straight home. While walking through the park, Shadow is given a flyer about a band playing at the Bronze, called The Angsty Guys Dressed In Black.

Lin arrives home to find a cop care & ambulance in her driveway. In the doorway is her watcher, his spine ripped out as well. The cops take the body away, and give her the number of a therapist in case she needs it. They tell her they'll check in on her later that night(of course, being Sunnydale cops, they're never heard from again. Not the brightest boys in blue). She is also given a flyer, accomapnied by a "we're sprry for your loss".

She wanders through the house in a bit of a daze, unsure of what she's to do now, and in a state of shock to boot. She eventually finds herself in her Watcher's study, sitting at his desk. An envelope materializes on the desk in front of her, with her name on it. Inside is a letter from her Watcher, informing her that if she's reading this he is indeed dead. He tells her not to worry, keep her chin up, and that she needs to keep up the good fight in his absence. There are evil things in this world and few to stand in their way. He also mentions that since he has died, the Watcher's council may be in touch, to send a replacement. He's left to her the house and everything in it, including his Occult Library(Impressive level), and some weapons(a sword, some knives, and a bunch of stakes).

She decides she needs to get her mind off of this and heads to the Bronze with Shadow. On their way, as they walk up an alley, a vampire-of course-attacks. Lin brought a stake & knife with her, so she tosses the knife to Shadow and they take on the vamp. THe battle is punctuated by cries of "agh! I'm almost dead!" from Shadow and my reminding her how Drama Points work.

After they dust the vamp, someone walks from the shadows, with a staff. THe staff is made of a spine, the vertebrae connected by discs of silver, and ending in a wooden stake. He introduces himself as Roland, and explains the he is a demon hunter who fought alongside Lin's parents. He gives the info that Malik, the vampire who killed her parents, has returned. He captured Malik after he killed her parents, and tortured him by removing his spine. However before he could kill him, Malik's minions turned up and beat Roland unconscous. When he came to, Malik was nowhere to be found. He believes Malik has returned, and is trying to magically replace his spine. Roland also got word that the Watcher had been killed, sdo he came to kill Malik, and offer aid to Lin(and subsequently, Shadow).

Lin agrees that they should find and kill Malik. The episode ends on her saying "But you're the bait" to Roland.

Episode Two: Bait

The episode opens up to a vampire's face. He's gagged, and he looks very old. In addition to the normal wrinkly-bupy-forhead, his face is wrinkled with age. He's bald, with a crown of grey hair at the back. His ears are pointy, too. Fear fills his eyes.

A voice says "They'll come for you. They'll come for revenge, and they'll find only death." A blue scaled hand with yellow fingernails presses into the vamp's forhead, and he cries out in pain into the gag. The hand pulls back, and a stylilized 8 has been burnt into his forehead.

Cut to Lin's house. She, Shadow, & Roland sit in the study, making a plan. Roland remembers where Malik's old hideout was, if they can get a schematic of the sewers he'll be able to show them. They decide they should do some sort of locator spell to determine how many lackeys he has with him. They doubt they'll have much trouble taking out a crippled vampire in a bucket, but the others may be trouble. They look through the books and find a spell that'll work, which needs a special ingredient, ground Manitou horn. Shadow heads off to the Magic Box to see if they have it, and at Rolands request agrees to pick up a box of twinkies on the way. She opens the door to find an envelope on the front step, with an engraved 8 on it. They open it up to find one sentance, in elegant handwriting. 'Octavia will rise.'

Shadow heads off to get the Manitou horn & twinkies, Lin hops on the computer to find schematics for the sewers in the city database, and Roland starts to research this Octavie persom whom he's never heard of.

Shadow comes back with the ground Manitou horn & twinkies to find Lin printing off the swer map, and Roland has found something. One referance, a prophecy.

'Octavia will rise, and for a week & a day she will lead her hordes against the world of man. And on the morn of the Eigth day, the sun will rise and the Earth will burn.'

With nowhere really to go on that front, they cast the spell. It basically consists of Lin & Shadow sitting facing one-another, the map between them. THey say some magic-sounding words and sprikle the ground horn over the map. 5 specks of light brighten up in Malik's old hideout. There's only one way in, so they figure they'll lure them out a couple at a time and gang-beat the vampires.

They head off into the sewers, Shadow armed with the Sword, Lin with knives, and Roland with his staff. And they each have a couple of stakes, of course. They reach the hideout, and stay back a little ways, trying to lure the vampires out. They try crying and screaming, even singing, but nothing happens. They decide to send Roland in, and when the vamps attack him the girls will flank from either side.

Roland steps into the doorway, and says "Uh girls, I think we have a problem." THe girls step in to find four vampirs tied up and gagged on the floor. A fifth sits in a bucket with straps attached(like a backpack), gagged. This is assumed to be Malik.

They enter the room, Lin exclaiming "This isn't right. What's going on?" to which she receives a reply of 'Oh, you're about to die!" from behind them. They turn to see three demons standing at the entrance. Blue-scaled, with yellow eyes & fingernails. They have a ridge of horns on their foreheads, which lead back along their heads, each like a thick strand of hair.

They exchange pleasantries, learning the demons are planning to summon Octavia. Apparantly the demons have their own prophecy, the these three will stop Octavia's arrival. The demons give them time to dust the vamps, bnefore advancing upon our intrepid heroes.

A fight ensues, culminating in the death of the demons. Roland kills his with a well-placed stake to the eye, Shadow by driving her sword into one's gut and wrenching upward, and Lin by slicing one's throat open and gutting him like a fish.

The episode ends with the three walking off into the sewers, returning home to wash off the sewer-stench.

Who will the Watchers' Council send to look after Lin?

Does Shadow have a regrettably normal real name?

Is Roland doomed to the painful death that apparent-GMPCs in well-run games are often marked for?

What's the theme song?

All this and more will be revealed... sometime soon, I hope. :D

We'll see what the Watcher's Councel is up to next episode when Roland goes away to ask them for some help.

Next time I see Christina I'm going to ask her if she has a real name thought up or if she'll leave it up to me.

Roland has a scheduled death plot-wise, but it's pretty far off.

I've been looking for a theme song for a while now, but can't seem to find something I like.

Cool, that rocked. Totally shocking (didn't expect the WAtcher to die!), totally creepy (spines eww!) totally Buffy-esque. Probably the most Buffy-esque write-up I've read!

Keep em coming!

Thankyou :D

We have a different day off than Christina this week, so next episode probably won't be until next weekend.

So since a couple of people showed interest in more, here's an update on the series:

Shadows given name actuall is Shadow. Her parents just didn't care. Imagine the parents from Time Bandits, worse.

Theme song is still being worked on. Narrowed it down to 4 possibles: Slave To The Grind by Skid Row, Burn Baby Burn by Ash, Stick 'em Up by Quarashi, and the 90210 theme..

Going to have the third episode this saturday. Two new characters will be introduced-Katie, a nerdy bookworm type that spends a lot of time in the libray(played by my friend Tatia), and a Vamp infused with a soul by the fledgling Initiative in WWII(played by my friend Jen). Her character doesn't have a name yet.

I'll post a synopsis of the epsiode sunday.

If you know my series, you can probably guess what I'd vote for...

Episode Three-Welcome To Sunnydale

Tonight's episode opens with Roland sitting in a chair in a corner of a living room, watching Lin's character(now with a name-Ruby!) & Shadow casting a spell over a map of Sunnydale. It's a specific type of locator spell, to find the type of demon they fought last time.

Roland mentions that he called in some help today, an old friend.

They say the words, and sprinkle dust over the map. Some of the dust begins to glow near the school, a bright red.

We cut to the school, where we see a girl walking with long blue hair. Behind her she hears a growl. As she turns, she sees a large lizard with a spiked tail, grinning evily at her.

Cut to music & opening credits.

We open to wheels turning on the street, speeding along. The camera pulls out to show a military-issue hummer heading down the street, and
then it turns a corner.

Cut to Ruby, Shadow, and Roland, in Roland's car, driving towards the school. As they round the corner, they see the lizard, and the blue-haired girl. The girl is now Vamped-out.

As they get out of the car, Roland says "Ah, there's the help I called"

Ruby gives him a dirty look, and ays "She's help?". Ruby's still a little sore at Roland.

They all pull out weapons and begin circling the lizard. The creature hisses at them, and leaps away into the shadows.

The Vampire is introduced as Isis(played by my friend Jenn), and we learn she & Roland have been friends for quite a few yers.

They all head back to the house, with plans of researching this new creature.

Cut to the other side of the school. The hummer from before screeches to a halt, and five people get out. Four people in fatigues & army boots, plus one figure in a grey suit, but same boots. He doesn't look very old, maybe early 40's, but the look in his eyes is much older. In his arms is a book, held close to his chest. They quickly head up the school doors, which are promptly kicked open.

Back at the house, everyone is reading up on this lizard-creature. They find a picture, and learn this is a Gareth demon, used or tracking & hunting. It is also used in locator spells, to hunt down whatever was being looked for.

Theyall turn to the map from before, and see the red glow is on the move.

They do a little more research, and learn(with the help of a Drama Point on Shadow's part) that the demons they fought before are called Kaliera demons, and they are somewhat suceptible to fire. So, with some Mr. Fix-it rolls they make up some molotovs, arm up with hairspray & lighters, and head out to follow their lizard.

They pile into the car, and follow the Gareth demon through the city. At one point it stops, licks the ground, and leads them to a cemetary. The demon then makes it's way to a mausoleum, and leaps down the stairs. There are some screams, and then a squelching sound.

Our intrepid heroes head down the stairs into the mausoleum, Roland first, then Shadow, Isis, and Ruby taking up the rear.

Ruby earns herself a drama point as she gets knocked on the back of the head & passes out.

Roland jumps in, spraying flaming hairspray at the Kaliera demons inside. They see the Gareth dead on the floor, and that it took out two of the demons, leaving two alive.

Roland keeps one of them at bay with the flames, while Shadow slices the other across the chest. Isis then chops off his head. They notice the other one is wearing an amulet, and then from behind them they hear "Hey heroes! Come on up and see what we've got!"

Roland grabs the other demon by the neck, and they head on up the stairs.

They see three more Kaliera demons standing by a tree, one of which is holding Ruby's limp body up by her neck. The claws of his other hand are poised at her jugular.

"Let him go, or she gets it."

The heroes all look at eachother, and Shadow says "Why do you need him so bad?"

"It's not exactly him we need, but the amulet he's wearing. Once it's on, you can't take it off until you're dead. We need him to live a little while longer."

"Oh really?" says Shadow. "Fine, kill her" she says as she makes for the demon wearing the amulet.

Cut back to the school. The soldiers and suited-man walk down some halls and stairs, ending up in the basement. They stop at a metal door which is covered in locks & chains.

"Pathetic" says the man in the suit, as one of the soldiers pulls out some very shiny silver bolt-cutters, and begins cutting through the chains>

Cut back to Ruby's throat, with some very vicious claws about to rip it out.

"Wait!" calls out Roland. He looks to Shadow and says "I know why they need this one. The amulet he's wearing, I know what it's going to be used for. I say we trade, we'll get another chance at them."

"Are you sure?" Shadow asks.

"If I'm lying, I'll let you stake me" Roland replies.

"But you're not a Vamp!"

"It'll still hurt like hell!" Roland says.

Shadow nods, and Roland pushes the demon forward. Ruby's body is tossed at their feet, and the Kaliera demon says "Pleasure doin' business with ya" as they walk off into the shadows.

Back at the house now, Ruby is on the couch with an icepack on her head. Shadow sits at a table, and Roland opens up a book to her. She reads the passage aloud, and they all learn that the amulet is used in a summoning spell. It has to be cast during an eclipse, on a mountaintop. The wearer of the amulet is sacrificed, an his blood is used to draw a symbol which summons a monster.

"Next week is an eclipse, and I know where they'll cast the spell," says Roland. "We can catch them when they've sacrificed him. it's an intricate symbol, we let them kill one of their own, and take the rest down while they're distracted."

Shadow looks over to Ruby, and back to Roland. "This better work."

Cut back to the school. The metal door is flung open with a rattle of broken chains, to reveal a room with a dirt floor.

"Well boys, start digging" says the man. The soldiers all pull out collapsable shovels, and begin to dig up the floor.

Sorry it took so long for this ep to show up. Jenn got fired, then Chris got moved to an earlier shift, so all of our schedules were different. But we finally got some time together a few days ago a play.
