Sandy,
I keep getting this message:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Warning: Too many connections in /var/spool/html/vb/admin/db_mysql.php on line 38
*
There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.
Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser.
An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.
We apologise for any inconvenience.

I am guessing that the vBulletin app ( a php app, it appears ) is creating persistent mysql DB connections. However, I am also guessing that the max # of persistent connections allowed is being exceeded by the # of apache httpd daemon processes which are being spawned under heavy load.
Just a guess, though!

I frequently get the same message, not only on the new forums but also on Reviews, Columns, and Review/Column commentary!
"Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Too many connections in /var/spool/html/include/ad.php on line 22
Unable to connect to database "

Me too. Also in the reviews I get some funky formatting where the text of the Review is pushed to one sid of the screen with whit space occupying at least 50% of the browser window

Yeah, I meant to mention that one too. I noticed it on SJE's CoC line review, which is already the longest thing in the history of RPGnet reviews and generating ominous graviton ripples in the RPGspace plexus. Skimming it squashed to a quarter of the screen width was like looking at a .... a .... Very Long Thin Thing. Maybe it's some sort of Freudian compensation jig...

I keep getting that same message, both at home (on a dial-up) and at school (which has a LAN on a T1.)
I would really like to know what is going on.

I feel like an old school AOL'er, but ME TOO. I can't get into the forums half the time, and the other half, I can't read the threads, cause of this stupid message.
Warning: Too many connections in /var/spool/html/vb/admin/db_mysql.php on line 38
I'm beginning to resent line 38 very much, and I don't even know it very well!

I've been getting that error a lot, too. Ironically, while attempting to post to this, as well.
If I use my 'back' button and retry whatever I was attempting, sometimes I can get the appropriate thing to load, and sometimes it simply gives me the same thing. Sometimes hitting 'Shift+Reload' also loads it up properly, but the 'back' option works more often than the reload.
I have no idea if it's got any bearing on the problem, but half the time I can manage to avoid getting that error if I'm clicking on things like a spidermonkey on crack. But if I slow down and take my time to read, type or whatever, I tend to get that error more.

Hi everyone,
Please rest assured, we *are* working on fixing things. Part of the "fix" will be moving to a bigger, niftier server machine. The rest of the details are completely lost on me. ;-)
Hang in there. We'll get things repaired ASAP.
