Ok. So I finally ran a game that didn't collapse right off the bat. This is good.

It all started just as the armies of the Wyld had finished gathering in the north. There was a huge parade and even the horrors from beyond creation were painted in bright colors and dressed in their finest clothing. And the common Raksha danced around massive bonfires. One lone figure stood out on the plains though. No one could pass until he was defeated in single combat. This didn't seem to interest the PCs much because no one offered to duel him. So it was mostly them watching from the side lines as two npcs fought for a couple minutes but I made be over quickly.

Abit later the characters were sent on a probing raid at a manse in the border marches. It was only suppose to contain a small group of barbarians but ended up having a few hundred soldiers. Daiye has a large manta ray made of water that flies and is rather stealthy so she scouted out the camp while Germain a gargoyle like fae rode with her. As they passed over Germain launched himself from the behemoth and crashed into a bonfire in the courtyard of the manse sending burning coals all through the gathered soldiers. While Sieg lead a unit of hobgoblins through the front gate, and Daiye sniped the sentries from the back of her manta with her bow.

I kinda lost track of combat about half way through so I just rushed through it narratively and I wasn't as well prepared as I should be. The players though seemed to like it and had fairly good comments on the game in general.

Sounds like a great start - and as long as the players are happy, you win.

All you need to do now is learn the secret technique of making "ohcrapIdidn'tprepare" into "Oh, yeah, I totally expected this session to end up with you guys gatecrashing Mnemon's wedding to the Perfect" :)

I seem to do my best roleplaying when I get into a sort of hyper stream of consciousness writing mode and just keep going and going and going without thinking about what im doing until I run out of steam a few hours later. I think my main problem with the battle is I planned for there to be a big explosion and have all the soldier's turn to stone then start attacking again but I completely forgot about it. So I felt like there was something missing through the entire thing but couldn't pin it down..
