I can get to the opening movie, but after I type in my name it crashes to desktop and I get the error message: "Fatal Panzer General Error: Not Enough Memory."
Now, I've got memory. I've got memory coming out of every pore. So what's the deal?

Maybe a lack of EMS or XMS memory.
You might try running the game through DosBox. It works for me for Fantasy General without tinkering, so I think chances are pretty good it'd work for Panzer General too!

I tried it with DOSbox but I got a "This program can not be run in DOS" message.
Sigh.
The original error is something like "Fatal Panzer General Error: exNilptr".
Not sure what that means. Anyone?

Assuming you aren't actually running '95.
Have you set the compatibility mode?
Right click on the icon and try setting it to windows 95 compatibility mode.

Yeah, got that going.

Null Pointer error? Odd.
I'd think that the problem lies in your extended memory, that annoying problem with RAM where old games think that modern pcs only have a few kilos of memory.
One method to fix this is a boot disk, but that usually only works playing DOS games. However, I'm sure that there is a place somewhere to fix that in windows XP, but I can't for the life of me recall where.
By the way, try doing a google search for Microsoft Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit. It's a real handy program that can autoset some complex system fixes temporarily to run certain legacy applications. In other words, it lets you run old games good!

It should be noted to the folks suggesting DOS related fixes, that the title of this thread is, in fact, the exact title of the game. Including the "Windows 95" part. ;)

So no one's got any idea? Is there a way I could, I dunno, tell the program that yes, it does in fact have enough memory?

You might try posting to the Underdogs tech forum. They can often be very helpful, and in many cases, there's already a patch to fix whatever issue there is.
You might also poke around in the included files, as I find there's often extra little patch files and things included in the ZIP archive.

Sorry to hijack an old thread on my first post but I was hoping maybe someone could help me. I too am trying to play Panzer General 95 on Windows XP and my issue is that I can't save. The game runs fine as far as I can tell but whenever I try to save it instantly crashes. I am already running the game in Windows 95 compatibility mode. Any ideas? Thanks.

Somebody seriously needs to make Panzer General for the DS. I'd be all over that.
As for the op, I've got nothing. I gave up long ago trying to get those old ssi games to work on my machine.

bump, anyone have any idea how to fix this save bug? Same thing happened when I tried Allied General too.

It's not Panzer General DS but it is a similar style (WWII era hex based fighting). I don't remember the name of it though :(

Or you could go this route: LGeneral link (http://lgames.sourceforge.net/index.php?project=LGeneral) it's basically Panzer General but not.

I dont think I ever got the windows version to work under XP when I was running windows.
Getting the dos version and using dosbox is propably easier in the long run

I had the DOS version running on DOSbox but it was quite unstable and crashed constantly.
