Code and Formatting for Wiki Projects

Perhaps a sticky for discussion of Wiki-specific coding would be useful?

My question: I must admit that I don't seem to be able to get an external link to open in a new window. Another Wiki that I attend automatically opens off-site pages in a new window (much as RPGnet's fora do). This doesn't seem to be the case with RPGnet's Wiki.

I've tried using HTML ( < a href="x.html" target=_new > link name < /a > -- remove unnecessary spaces ) but this doesn't seem to work. Any hints or ideas?

PS I've looked through the help files, and I can't see this discussed. Could be stupidity on my part. But please help, anyway. :)

As far as I can tell there isn't a way to do this by default (without hacking the code).

You can always choose to open something in a new window with a right-click, then "open in new window". At least in most browsers on most computers.

Thanks for the reply. My big plan was to ensure that people kept RPGnet open even as they opened a window for an external site. Ah well. Maybe I'll just include a note to the effect that they should "right-click" (PCs) or "click-and-hold" (Macs).

But the idea of discussing how to do formatting is a good one as its seems that several of us are not masters of formatting and the available HELP isn’t terribly helpful. Fort instance, I had to sit and pick apart various tables one by one before I could even do basic table-formatting for SAMSARA. And it’s still pretty ugly.
