Hi everyone,

Just a heads up that this is the last chance to get color printing in on this month's consolidation run. I'll be sending the group projects to the printer in just over 1 week. If you have color covers, maps, business cards, book covers, fliers, etc, that need to be printed soon, I'll need to hear from you ASAP. If you have absolutely no clue what I am talking about, you can read a basic description of my consolidation service and rates at:
http://www.guildofblades.com/smallbiz.html

The Guild of Blades next scheduled batch of color printing will be heading to the printers in late April, so pending demand, that will be the next scheduled consolidated printing batch.

Thanks,

I've looked over the site and some of the terminology is confusing to me. For example: 10 vs 14 vs 18 point stock, simply put, I do not know what a point is or how it is measured. Where can I get a sample or something physical to figure this out?

I'm used to measuring paper weight in pounds (one of the 7 systems of measurement) and the points doesn't tranlate well.

Any information would be appreciated.

Hi LIW,

Cover weight paper stocks are listed in points. Most book covers are either a 10pts, witth a minority of them being 12 point. 10 point is roughly equivelant to 100lbs, and 12 point roughly equal to 120lbs.

Cover stocks tend to be a bit more rigid than your average cadr stocks at those poundage weights, simply because they have a gloss coat, and because they often get an Aquias or UV laminant coating put over the color printing to help protect them. UV coating in particular seems to add 10-15% to the thickness of a 10pt cover stock. Certainly adds some rigidity to it.

Hope that helps,
