Just picked this up the other day (it has come down to $30 for the X-Box and I had $10 in Reward Zone stuff). Woo, fun! I wasn't expecting it to be quite like it is and was pleasantly surprised. Grand Theft Auto with a much more militaristic tone.
So I've captured most of the Clubs. The Ace of Clubs contract is now open, but I've still got some Clubs oustanding. The e-mail said that I could talk to the guy at the Allied Nations headquarters and take the Ace contract (which closes all other Club contracts) or I can go inside to get the other Club contracts first - but the other guy you usually speak with to go inside isn't there. The only other flag on the map is for China, so I can go there and pick up a couple of missions. Thoughts?
I'm having much fun. I like to carry an assault weapon of some sort and an RPG as my main set of weapons. Those who have played through, does it get even better as you continue?

It's a fun game. Not realistic at all, but not meant to be.
I like carrying a LMG or sniper rifle, and an RPG or AA rocket launcher. The latter is especially useful: Helicopters are nasty to deal with.

Once you get the Ace mission unlocked, you can no longer get the AN missions for that suit. Also, once you finish all the missions for a faction, their symbol drops off of the map. However, you can still find the other cards. They are on the map at all times, so if you wander around every inch of the map, you will find them all, even if you don't have the intelligence information for them.

Perfect, that's just what I was hoping.
Second question:
The suits are set up sorta like chapters? I won't find (say) the King of Diamonds while I'm wandering around for the Six of Clubs?
I haven't been poking around off-road too much just yet, so I'm not sure what all to expect.
But damn, I hope there's a sequel planned for this game.

Not always true for the face cards, who are tied into missions, but otherwise yeah.
And yeah, it fucking ROCKS.

I played a demo level for Mercenaries on the disc that comes with Original Playstation Magazine. I ran through the level three times and realized I was hooked and had to buy the game right freaking then. I've only paid full price for a video game twice since I bought my PS2. One was for Mercenaries. The other was Star Wars: Battlefront, by the same designers.
Personally, my favorite weapon setup for most of the game was an RPK and an RPG. That's the combo that really pays, since it's so versatile. As you get deeper into the game and find more pickups, you'll unlock some great goodies, like new airdrops, skins (I had a lot of fun running around as Indiana Jones) and such. The Ace missions are particularly interesting, as they always take place on separate boards you visit just for bagging the Ace.
Also, there is a second half to the world you have yet tounlock. Once you begin hunting your third suit of cards, you go to a new board the same size of the previous board. At the MASH, you can find an AN pilot who will take you beteween the boards so you can go back and keep poming around and whatnot.
The only thing I didn't like so much was the squidginess of the vehicle controls, particularly the lighter, faster stuff. But after a while, I got used to it.
There was a cool thread a little while ago for what you'd like to see in Mercenaries 2. Some really great suggestions in that, starting with the obvious: destructible trees!

The anti-tank weapon's my favourite backup piece.

Ooh ooh ooh new map new map! RAWK.
Just finished up the Ace of Clubs. I didn't have to wander all over the map to find the last guys - I finished the Chinese missions and they provided the info as part of the missions, which was nice. The...I think it was Eight of Clubs was the most fun yet outside the Ace - I had to make what amounted to a Death Star Run going in to get him, then escape via the same route in a crappy NK Jeep (honking the horn the whole time so the AN didn't blow the stuffing out of me with that grenade launcher or whatever it is).
I really enjoyed the Ace mission - I thought I was going to bite it once or twice and had to hoof the Ace halfway across the map to get to a safe extraction zone. Note to self: The sniper rifle, while extremely cool and useful, is not the right tool to use all the time. It does, however, drop North Korean choppers in a big hurry.

I love the getaway in a stolen vehicle. It's the best part of the game, when you're this close to completing the mission (particularly if it's one you've had a problem with), and you're in a hotwired vehicle, and you're being shot at by everyone, and you know you just need to get a little bit farther...
I recall one mission ending in a similar fashion. I had hijacked an Anti-Air truck (it was the only thing nearby!), and I was going down mountain roads while being shot at by tanks, and in a last-ditch effort, I drove it off a cliff. It landed in a valley, on all four tires, and started to smoke. But I made it out, dragged the card to safety, and earned my money. :)

Now if only they'd release it for PC!
I want Mercenaries, and I odn't wanna spend a bunch of money on a new console to get it.

I'm trying to figure out what someone could say in this thread that would result in a "whatever" but I'm stymied!

Y'know something?
Mercenaries has really nice music. Seriously, it's good stuff. I think I'm gonna order the soundtrack. The main theme is nice and dramatic, and the use of vocals is well done.
Whoa! So many people carry an RPG as one of their weapons?
I remember when I used too...kinda dug watching the smoke trail as the damn thing would weave all over the place. It felt like I was watching a D20 dice roll, seeing a high number, then a low and thinking "c'mon, c'mon! Daddy needs new air strikes!"
I use the anti tank now. Not fun in that way, but it fires with a flat trajectory, no deviation. Plus you can take out choppers with it, if you shoot them in the arse.
The other weapon is the prototype. Damn, sniping with that is the art of leading, but it's a great all rounder.
I'm hoping mercenaries 2 will have some sort of small, back up weapon in addition to the two you carry (only being able to carry two, doesn't work like it does in halo with it's many odd weapon carrying aliens).
Here's the wishlist thread: http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=205311
Not sure if it's okay to add content to such a thread (it'd be valid in my mind as a new thread would be wishing about the exact same product).

Michael Giacchino is an awesome composer. He also did the Incredibles.

Yes he is. If there's a sequel, I hope they get him to come back and do something (although I believe other composers also worked on the score, so they should get to come back too. Everyone involved deserves praise.).

Ok, I had rented this game a few times, and gotten all the way to the final Ace of Spaces mission before I was forced to return it (beig unable to beat it)
Yesterday I saw it for sale @ $25 and snapped it up.
Beat the Ace of Spades my second try
So now I'm replaying the game for a second time to get a better ending (Seoul was nuked and the mafia is in control ACK!)
Except now I've got Song's Prototype rifle to play with. :D
My initial impression of the rifle was poor, but then I learned it had a scope, and gained a TON of accuracy when you kneel. Plus it has good stopping power.
Anyways, not much to this post really besides "I GOT IT!" "I BEAT IT" RAWK!"

It's worth noting, he only did the main theme. Some other dude orchestrated it and did all the other stuff.
