That was quick.

The thing I like about my pick is that he appeared in both Detective Comics AND Marvel Comics.

"Imagine a person, tall, lean and feline, high-shouldered, with a brow like Shakespeare and a face like Satan, a close-shaven skull, and long, magnetic eyes of the true cat-green. Invest him with all the cruel cunning of an entire Eastern race, accumulated in one giant intellect, with all the resources of science past and present, with all the resources, if you will, of a wealthy government--which, however, already has denied all knowledge of his existence. Imagine that awful being, and you have a mental picture of Dr. Fu-Manchu, the yellow peril incarnate in one man."

Draft Order 11

Although his manipulations will not be immediately obvious, the Freak Legion will soon face the implacable might of AIM led by none other than:

http://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/Avengers/ennemis/Modok01.gif

MODOK!

Robot Fury

Round 9
Draft Order 10

The mastermind behind the shadowy organisation that the Wild Squad has been sent to destroy is none other than...

http://members.cox.net/robot_fury/Gorgon.gif

The Gorgon!

Given that Baron von Strucker's already been picked, we can assume that Gorgon never did become Hydra Supreme. Instead, he has, with the aid of the Hand, infiltrated and subverted a cell of Hydra to begin amassing his own army in Madripoor.

(Had to edit a micro to make this guy. Amusingly enough, that used to be Clark Kent.)

MODOK and AIM was going to be my choice, but I've got a good back-up choice ready.

I don't mind sharing. I honestly didn't think anyone would take MODOK, and mainly chose him for sheer wackiness. He just comes up with the most insane schemes based on whatever strange Moon Logic goes on inside his oversized cranium.

I wanted a villian who was visibly horrific, certifiably insane, had hordes of mooks, and was primary known for hairball schemes.

MODOK just seemed to good to pass up.

Then I'll take my other pick, and borrow some AIM scientists for one issue or something; there's only one thing that's really specific to AIM. AIM created the Cosmic Cube, which contains an energy from another dimension which can reshape matter and reality, right? And Quislet is an energy being from another dimension who can reshape and animate matter. So how are they connected, and how does AIM think they're connected?

suedenim
09-08-2005, 11:25 AM
And as far as the "mook groups" go, they're often to some degree interchangeable, and can have all manner of offshoots, splinter groups, and whatnot.

Indeed, I've half a notion that Strucker is setting up his own "baby" for a big fall - that Hydra will have a big, catastrophic failure and collapse... all of which to divert attention from what Strucker's *really* up to (which I haven't figured out yet....)

You, and anyone else for that matter, are more than welcome to borrow AIM for various plots and the like. It's a sprawling organization with all sorts of different projects. Heck, anyone can borrow MODOK so long as he gets away at the end of the issue. I just need him for the culmination of the story. Tefe's going to have something very special for him.

He’s a genius, but not an intuitive one; he adapts technology that others have created, so he’s got an interest in anything my team comes up with. He’s been known to try organizing criminal gangs under his leadership, so I can make him the manipulator behind some splinter organization of mooks in a secret base if I need one. And I can do plots around his quirkier sorts of projects: http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/thinkerbots.htm

Leader of the cult of Anti-Life on Earth. Judge, censor, kill- Anti-Life gives you the right! In these morally confused times, who is to say you are not justified in the oppression of others? Emboldened by this doctrine, Godfrey's legions of Justifiers grow stronger by the day...

Much more to my liking for my group is:

Can I make a team of bad guys?

The ruling on the editors thread said picks could be used on villains or villain teams, though the impression I got was the teams would be lesser villains, not 'masterminds' or big names.

Megamanfan
09-08-2005, 07:38 PM
Round: 8
Draft Order: 2
Team: The Justice League
Initial Concept: The world's first line of defense against invaders from other worlds, planes or dimensions.

This outta be big enough for a whole team:

Darkseid!! (and the rest of his Apokolips goons)

Daz Florp Lebam
09-08-2005, 07:43 PM
Pick a main villain or pick a villain group (like the Serpent Society, or make one up I suppose, but you would need to define it REALLY WELL, like most existing villain groups are - The Sinister Six is mostly a bunch of Spider-Man villains, for instance), and hope people respect the theme of your villain group. In the next round you can pick a villain or a villain in that group. When the final draft is over, you can people your villain group with whoever. I don't think it'd be fair to pick a bunch of named villains in one fell swoop. Implied, yes; named, no. Of course, many villains imply a certain accompanyment of lesser baddies. Darkseid always comes with a cast of minions and Parademons and what-all.

Donald Stone
09-08-2005, 07:48 PM
My first villian pick is a team, the infamous

Legion of Doom

It's members include (and if anyone wants one of these guys for your Master villian just say so and I'll replace him.)

Doctor Octopus, Juggernaut, Weather Wizard, Giganta, Dr Light, Sinestro, Bullseye

Now I choose and ally!!

Round: 9
Draft Order: 2
Team: The Justice League
Initial Concept: The world's first line of defense against invaders from other worlds, planes or dimensions.

Hiro Okamura: Toyman II (I can't find a micro of him)

This kid was handpicked by Captain Marvel and persuaded to create all kinda of cool technology for the League.

This is a pretty good approach, too. You can name up a group, but if someone else wants one of them, you lose them...unless of course it make sense for that someone to be engaged in extra-team villainy on the side.... Keep in mind that once you name someone, you may give later drafters ideas along the "hey, I'd forgotten about that guy! I want him!" line! ;)

We're on the last leg, folks! It's all gravy after this!

I'm going to bed. PM me your picks if you haven't, so we can get this wrapped up tomorrow. I'm not going to be around a whole lot this weekend. I will, however be reading through my cut-and-pasted doc of everyone's story and character ideas, so that I can come back with my own hallucinations about what would be cool. I will start a new thread before I go, which will start off with everyone's complete picks and descriptions (so that all the line-ups are in one place), followed by discussion and story-creatin' and arc-writin' and bandying about and what-not.

Kudos to everyone for perseverance and creativity!

See ya in th' mornin'.

Danforth St. is located on an obscure bend in downtown Venice Beach. Struggling students and starving artists often find they can get what they need on that street, though nobody can quite remember what specific shops are there (let alone the names of any shopkeepers). All they remember is that there are always gun shops and sporting goods stores decorated in pink lace for some unknown reason.

(Not sure how I'll work in the world traveller element.)

I honestly have no idea who to take for my second villain pick, so I "Pass". Pop me to the end and I'll pick my villain after everyone else. If I come up with somone before then, but someone snags him... Ahh well. My fault for snoozing! I'll live.

Unfortunately my Skrull story arc has really been the focal point for my thoughts, so I haven't really been able to think of a good mastermind/ally for them, nor a good second arc yet. So... I'm good for now. Let the others pick so I don;t hold things up while I mull it over.

THE ULTRA-HUMANITE!!!!!.I knew it! I always knew there was some reason I found Rip Taylor creepy.

Anywho.

My Pick is
Arnim Zola

http://jerome.galica.free.fr/marvel/Avengers/cap/ennemis/ArnimZola.gif

Of course my version of Zola is back when he was just a nutty Swiss Scientist and before he decided that the decapitated Teletubby was the just the right look for him.

And to be a completist, at some point I have to have a villain team named the Crusaders.

If those two villains teamed up, you'd have the deadly team of Gorgon & Zola. Or is that too cheesy an idea?

Haven't most of Lee's picks been done by Daz? Let's let Daz give us the official word, then go from there.

But I agree, it's been dead today. I thought we might have started another thread somewhere.

I am on the slowest computer known to man, with the slowest connection I have ever experienced. So slow I daren't read the most recent posts on either thread. I might not be able to get back on again. Could disconnect at any moment. I will start a new story arc writer's thread tomorrow night. Play nice while I'm gone. Thanks!

Well, the official word seems to be no word for the moment. I vote we do what we have been: move on the the next person (Bobaloo), and give Lee a veto if someone grabs his villain.

It's been a heck of a long time, so I'm going to go ahead and make my picks. We can sort out the fallout later, if it's an issue.

Anyway, this is a multipick, covering a team of villains. Presenting the new and improved...

Salem Seven. But wait, you may say, there are only six of them. With the traitor Gazelle not joining her siblings in Hell, a new member was needed. And a new member was found, one who not only could provide the team with field leadership, but could make them even more powerful. Presenting the new leader of the Salem Seven, and the Consort of the Goblyn Queen...

I'm inclined to agree. It's very frustrating to watch this thing stall out when we're about five picks shy of the finish line. I'm not going to post my final pick yet, but if Matt doesn't post soon I will, and as always accept the fallout if I stole his pick (although I kinda doubt it. My last baddie isn't so international).

When the Venom symbiote broke Eddie Brock out of Arkham Asylum, he didn't know that it was pregnant. In the chaos of the breakout, the newborn symbiote bonded with the strongest source of emotion nearby...

The Joker!

Ok, if someone wanted the Joker for their pick, I'd like to discuss it because I'm fairly attached to this idea, but y'know. Rules are rules, and if you were ahead of me you've got the legit claim.

If anyone wanted Carnage, who's origin I've just stolen, that can be worked out. The Venom symbiote could've had twins at Arkham. Which would lead to possible interaction between Carnage, Joker, and Venom.

Anyway, if anyone wants either of those two, post or PM and we'll work out the details.

This is almost exactly the idea I had for my "Jason Todd as big bad" concept I almost went with. At the beginning of the third act, just when Red Hood was going to be taken into custody, the hood would smile.

Then everything would go to hell. :D

Wow, that would be damn cool.

I'm back!
With a fully functional computer and everything.
So, what, are we waiting on budman? I don't seem to have any picks for him.
Sorry about not being available. It was pretty frustrating for me, too.
Anyhoo, looks like we're nearly done. I know I said I'd start a new thread last night, but, uh, I forgot. As soon as budman posts his last villain pick, we can say good riddance to this interminable draft! ;) I think we should all be rather proud of ourselves, really.
Again, sorry. Let's move forward!

I think I should be after Lee, and I think he wasn't taken as a second villian (and I'm pretty sure I mentioned it on the Editor's thread): The Leader.

(I had my pick with Daz, and totally didn't log in this weekend.)

Well, I'm starting the story thread anyway. Budman can post his final villain pick here, and/or post on the new thread, THE THING CALLED...HYBRID!!! (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?p=4578135#post4578135)

Al-righty then! :)

We are done here.

Thanks to all of you for a pretty smooth operation, although there is no way I will ever run a 21-team draft again.

That shit is crazy.

Let's write some comics! See you over at THE THING CALLED...HYBRID!!! (http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=217086)
