G’day,

There is another cliché alternative to the ‘it was all a dream’ is the good old timetravel (assuming your universe can cope with it). Time travel will give the character a chance to fix things (if desired) and actually has a couple of advantages over the dream thingy in that time travel doesn’t take away the responsibility of the character from his actions (where the dream assumes the character ‘didn’t actually do it’). Time travel would also take a session or two to introduce so it would be possible to add it down the line if the character’s actions are determined to be incompatible to the campaign.

On the other hand, I’m the type of GM who would bring back everyone killed by this society as the evil demonic leaders of the armies of hell. Their slaying by the society forced them to go down the road of the damned instead of stopping them. Also allows you to say to the character: ‘that’s right, you are personally responsible for the end of the world. Well done.’ Of course, they can try and fix things, which is where the fun is.

Good luck with the game. Looking forward to the outcome.

cheers

Thanks for your comment!

I'm bracing myself for tomorrow. I'll probably make the outcome the topic of my next column, if there's enough interest.

Walt
