Check out where http://www.coh.co.kr goes. You can get there by clicking on it, or by going to http://www.ncsoft.com and selecting City of Heroes, Korea. It'd be pretty funky for NCSoft to put hacked or cracked files on their own website. It's just a promotional tool.

You are posting something of questionable legal status on my server. The site which houses the file is Korean, written in Korean, and with little to no direct link to the original manufaturer and owner of the game. If the creator were legal in the US, you can be quite sure that NCSoft would have released it on their ENGLISH SITE.

Consider:

Pretty much all applications (CoH included) have you accept a legal disclaimer prior to download. Linking directly to a download (bypassing the legal disclaimer) is ILLEGAL.

The site that you linked to is in Korean. Whether it is an official CoH distribution or not, they quite clearly are not ready to distribute the application to an American/Western market (by FAR, their majority audience). So you are bypassing the company's wishes and trying to distribute an application WHICH THEY OWN without their permission.

When CoH is ready to distribute their drawing application as freeware in the States, I'm quite sure that they will have no problem advertising that fact.

You are extremely lucky to still be allowed on this server -- you were told explicitly after you first posted not to post the link again....and yet you did.

Had I been allowed to respond (the thread was locked), I would have added:

I'm just saying if you go to the NCSoft site http://www.ncsoft.com (in english) and select City of Heroes but the Korean sublink it takes you to the home of that download. NCSoft is a copyright and trademark holder for that software. I can't discuss "dubius legality" but I figure if the copyright and trademark holder is making it available, it's ok. Apparently, I'm wrong.

The download is discussed on the North American page's message board link included, including posts from their own North American netrep and posts on where to get the english translation. I won't post the link to the official, North American, message board or a link to a search on the red name there, but it's there. Surely, if the people responsible for what you feel is in their majority market thinks the link is ok... it's not unreasonable for me to also think it's ok and repost the link with further clarification to ease your worries.

Apparently, that's not the case. I apologize. Hopefully, you can understand that I believed you were mistaken and was just trying to help out many of the Hero fans who all said they'd love to have this application.

As an alternative, the software was also given as a freebie to folks in the US who attended events like Wiz World and stuff (no translations needed). Perhaps Hero fans could go to their local conventions or trade shows where NC Soft and/or Cryptic will be present and see if they can get a copy.

No harm was intended. No further discussion needed. Again, I apologize and have a great day.

Sounds like a board I won't be spending a whole lot of time on (Not that I play Hero, but even if I did . . . ).

I would however like to add two further things:

1) The English hack doesn't work in ME apparently. The regirstry setting just resets itself to Korean every tiem you run it.

2) I'm not convinced this program is safe. Shortly after installing it, I noticed a random and severe performance hit. Plus I discovered the Installshield kernel still running. And when I tried to get Spybot installed and running, I got a bunch of wierd bugs when I did it.

It may be just a conincidence, a combination of a bug in the installer, and Spybot's tendency to behave a little oddly at times.

Still, I'm not sure I trust it.

Occasionally, harmless stuff shows up as potentially suspicious, though.

Now, the initial bug report from Yours Truly. When you select a male figure, and use the "chitin" selections from the "tight" catagory, the secondary color doesn't show up, leaving it monochrome.

As a correllary, though, this is my first opportunity to play around with auras, and DAMN, I've gotta get Becca up to level 30!

Hm, my installation doesn't seem to have the directory pictured. There's no 'Cryptic" with a KrCOH entry. There's NCSoft.... Hm.

But seriously, you can't change the registry permissions in Windows 2000's version of regedit; you have to use regedt32. Find the aforementioned key, then (after modifying the Locale value), select the KRCOH key, open the Security menu, select Permission, and a box similar to the XP version comes up. Select Deny under your user name, save, and there you go!

Click "Run"
Type "regedit"
Look for "Cryptic" or "NCSoft" in the registry entries.
Click it.
Select "KRCOH" (it should be under "Coh" and maybe "Coh Test"
Look for "Locale"
Right click and select Modify
Change "3" to "0".
Right click on "KRCOH" in the registry tree.
Select "Permissions"
Select "Deny" for the usernames that use the computer. This should check "Full Control" and "Read."
Click "OK"
Close the registry.

But in spite of all that, damn it's fun to play with. I've done a couple fo my old characters, and last night my wife did an old character of hers, the Lupin gang, a djinn, and some new characters.

I did some digging through the html source on the Korean site and found a commented-out section that led me to a different download link. I've downloaded, installed and ran it and it works just fine.

I'm not sure if this one is any different than the previously posted version...I have that version downloaded at work and won't be able to compare the files until Monday. But it appears to be the same version, based on screenshots I've seen of the first.

I'm a little leery of posting the link directly in this thread (I'm a little leery about posting that I know of another link, for that matter) as I imagine this one will get pulled quickly, too. But if anyone is still looking for this, PM me and I'll reply with the link.

It preserves .pdf files well enough- I used it to get the Orca class deckplans that ZAON seems to have misplaced.

I just ran an SHA-1 file signature check comparing the copy of CCC_Setup.exe I downloaded last week before that link was removed and the file from the new link I found this past weekend. They are the exact same file, just different filenames. So the Character Creator is still out there, as of this morning, if anyone else still needs it.

I've been adding it outside the quotes, and it still doesn't work for me.

I found I was making a stupidly easy mistake- you need to add a space between the quotations and -windowed. That was a "Well duh!" moment for me.

The character generator really is fantastic. Now if only my wife would leave it alone long enough for me to do up some characters with it...

There isn't. And judging by the brouhaha surrounding the Korean version being released, I don't think we will be seeing it any time soon. At least until the "ummm....legal issues" are taken care of.

I keep on trying to install this on my computers (two), one running Vista and the other XP and it keeps on giving me an error message on install... with a "close" and "ignore" option. Hitting ignore doesn't seem to work.

To get it to run in english:
start>run>regedt32

HKey_Current_User\Software\Cryptic\KRCOH
Change the Locale entry to 0

After that, right-click on the KRCOH key, select permissions.
Pick the user account that you use normally.
DENY that account Full Control.

Accept the message.

This changes the locale to english, and prevents the application from resetting it to Korean when you launch the application.

To get the cursor to show up try putting the -compatiblecursors 1 in the command line when you start the program. That should work. I haven't fiddled with the registry yet so you are on your own there.

IIRC, the character creator was put out as a way to advertise City of Hero when it was released in Korea. It was never intended as a fully supported piece of software (and was never intended to be released in the USA either).
