In retrospect, the profanity was a bad idea.

Also, your definition of splatbook does now at least make some sort of sense.

Still, no. Nope nope nope. You don't get to re-define.

...

Also, why do you have a column? It seems to alternate between reviews and personal opinions that would function better as forum posts.

The other reason for "no" is that your definition defeats the purpose of why the word splatbook was coined in the first place.

Splatbook was coined to differentiate a specific type of White Wolf book from other White Wolf books.

Thus, a re-defining of the word "splatbook" that incidentally makes it inclusive of almost all White Wolf books is ill-conceived.

Unless of course you think that White Wolf redefined what a splatbook is by making all of their books splatbooks.

Thanks for the apology, and good luck in the future.

I have a column because I am a published writer with various credits and I want to write one.

We will still disagree, but I wish you the best.

Okay, I'm going to try it with puppets.

White Wolf Fan Puppet #1: "Hey, we talk about White Wolf books a lot. Let's invent a word that means 'this specific group of White Wolf books,' so that we can refer to them, as distinct from other books published by White Wolf, seeing as how we're White Wolf fans and talk about White Wolf books a lot. Especially here, in alt.games.whitewolf, the place where the word will be invented once we invent it."

White Wolf Fan Puppet #2: "Sure. Sounds like a good idea!"

Ross Winn Puppet: "I'm going to redifine your word. The new definition will render it useless for the task for which it was originally coined."

Does that help with the understanding I am trying to foster within you?

No?

I didn't think it would.

Though, one notes that what splatbook is, according to WW fans, is not all WW books. In fact, the only folks saying that they are are folks who don't play WW games. The ocmpany itself never uses the term as far as I can tell. And I've seen the term used for a rather specific sort of thing: character type books. An example I personally use is the "Secrets of the Clans" books for L5R, or the Complete series for D&D 3.5.

With books like that being the basis, things about organizations such as say, the Guild for Exalted or the "Sharn: City of Towers" book for Eberron do not fall into the splat model without some forcing.

Or soemthing. Stuff.

"Coined" for White Wolf books?

Damn we were cutting edge when we referred to Twilight 2000 gear books and such as Splatbooks. Quite sometime before Vampire ever came to light.

Why are you a Moderator? You seem to alternate between Jerkface Know-Nothing and Just Plain Jerk.

Heh.

That comes as a surprise, because I wouldn't think he could put up with himself at all.
