Sounds like you did a good call on your part. There are two stores in the area around me. One is like the first model you presented. Lots of tables and such, plenty of room.

Problem is it's become a hangout more than a store. Same types you talked about, all piled in there not spending much money at all if any and demanding things to suit them better. Problem is the store owner still bends over backwards for them. So when somebody comes in hoping for a table to run a game at (me in the case with a game I bought there) there isn't one empty, or there is but they demand that they HAVE to have it to put their bookbags and binders on. Needless to say I don't go there often anymore.

I frequent the other store more and buy more from them. It's more along your second model that you presented. Although more on comics and less on games (but will special order anything you want) he does have gaming space though, just not much of it.

Anyways, just some observations from my little neck of the woods.

A game store round where I used to live had one night a week available for playing games. Maybe this might work as a compromise? Keep the goodwill, and avoid non-paying customers from monopolising your store.

The gaming store/gaming club I used to go to had seperated things. The store was downstairs. The club was upstairs and there was an annual membership fee and they only met once a week. The store was a bit more than a gaming store. An old general store that had added games to the materials they sold. (Until it was struck by lightning)

The gamers were seperated and isolated from the store by being above the store.
