I know a guy who buys every Shadowrun product being published. But if you ask him if he ever wants to PLAY, you hear: Aaaahh, sorry, but I have to visit one of my 150 aunts and uncles this weekend.

There is really a market for the "passive roleplayer" out there. Gaming Product Companys, go ahead!

The late Redmond Simonson of SPI fame once observed that people who bought wargames fell into two distinct categories:

1) Those who bought them as research/recreational reading
2) Those who bought them to play

He further observed that these two groups wanted very different things out of games, and that one of the greatest challenges he faced as a game designer was satsifying both groups.

I see no reason why RPGs should be substantially different.
