Converted from Phorums BB System
Charles,
An interesting and provocative column! My wishlist for "the new D&D":
* More modularity in the magic system -- keep the divine / arcane division only as an option. Make cast-at-will types like the Warlock the new gold standard.
* Create "that special abilities" guy which reflects the abilities of the monk, barbarian, and soulknife.
* A simplified and streamlined basic class list (like described) with customization options using feats.
* A more detailed system for evasion and pursuit, and a more detailed system for social contacts, persuasion and allies.
* Options for low or high treasure campaigning.
* Monster creation rules using a few monster classes, and a handful of templates, duplicating the variety of types seen today.
* Integrated high level play, all in core books. (Up to 30th level.)
* Greatly improved rules for experience, ideally based on character set goals.
