(Its JK Rowling, Charles).
The year is 2014. D&D has been declared a crime against humanity. Those who have played it but have stopped are second class citizens or have recanted. Those who continue to play it are hounded by the powers that be.
Ah, to muse about a halcyon future.

Ah yes, the good days, when everybody who doesn't agree with your interpretation of a hobby can be burned at the stake.
That was sarcasm, by the way.

You don't think he might have been, you know, joking?
THATS sarcasm!

On the other hand, the powers that be only allow people to play in the Newest World of Darkness, using the Storyretelling system with its unique, world-shatering, Polyhedral Fate Expressioner Device. Any person that uses the words "roleplaying", "roll", "di(c)e", "player", and similar expressions has its tongue bitten-off by the werewolverine or vampirette to its Correct side.

Jethrow,
Thanks for catching my spelling mistake. Sorry JK. I looked up the spelling of her last name to get it right and messed up her initials.
I'm hoping that by 2014 the world will be more free with less poor people, less suffering people, and less people living under oppression.
And, of course, D&D will still be going strong.

Well, gee, no, I thought he was completely serious, so I replied in kind.
Or, more accuratly, I pegged him as one of those people who dislike D&D and make a fuss about it. If you don't like it, don't play it, and keep your negative comments out of a D&D discussion, unless the discussion is about wether D&D is good or not. Otherwise, you're just being annoying.

In any case, I suspect I was overreacting.

I like Sergio's vision of a terrifying future. It made me almost choke on my cereal.

Thanks for your support Dan. A sense of humour can be a sorely misunderstood thing.

Hey, be annoyed, that's fine. But I think it would be a strange world indeed if all discussions about something like D&D were restricted to participation by those who like it. No room for a Devil's Advocate position? Isn't that a bit narrow minded and restrictive? I admit that in my initial posts some years ago on RPG.net I may have been a little vehement in some of my comments, but my opening comments were just gently taking the piss. Chill out.

Yeah, I did overreact. I don't normally go off like that. Sorry, Jethrow. Your post just pushed a few of my buttons.
