Hey folks,
I've run Obsidian LARP (http://www.twilight-games.com/obsidian.shtml) at GenCon for 3-4 years in a row. I've run LARPs at other cons and locally throughout the years as well. It has always been a lot of fun, but I'm honestly a little worn out. So this year I'd like to play instead of run a LARP and recharge my LARPing energy.
What LARPs are worth looking into at the Con?
Which ones should be avoided? Why?
Any good GenCon LARP stories to share?
Thanks,
Matt

Go to the Vampire: The Requiem LARP. In fact, play an Invictus and swear to Prince Villain.
I'll be there as part of that cotorie if ya want to meet up.

Got any more details?
Who is running the game (Camarilla, etc)?
Thanks,

I'll be running one of Shifting Forest's parlor larps: "Garden Station Four". It's a sci-fi game about scientists from rival empires both crash-landed on an alien space station. Only eight characters, though.

I am running one for Wraith the Oblivion called 'Escher's Revenge', and one for Call of Cthulhu called 'A Time for Madness'.
I'm also want to play in a couple so looking for recommendations. I like very dark and intense types of games, preferably single slot ones (as opposed to 3 slot epics). Anyone seen anything that looks good for me? :-)

So, you're looking for a LARP? Mind if I shamelessly pimp our game?
[shameless pimping]
Come join Sick & Twisted Productions for their 2nd Annual GenCon event... Death Springs Eternal
It is the year 1797. The Revolutionary War is over, and Vampires have settled in to the small, yet bustling village of Yellow Springs (just south of Valley Forge, PA). Little do they know that they are on the brink of disaster. The town is surrounded by werewolves, ghosts roam the town, the undead are rising from their graves, and there is trouble brewing within the vampires' own ranks.
This is a two-part game, spanned over two days: Friday 1PM to 5PM and Saturday 1PM to 5PM.
Game Listing ID: LRP00035 and LRP00036
This Camarilla Vampire game will be run using White Wolf's Old World of Darkness MET LARP rules.
For more information, visit Sick & Twisted Productions' website (http://www.st-productions.net) or forum (http://forum.st-productions.net) or email us at Sick.and.Twisted.Productions@gmail.com, and one of our Sick & Twisted Staff will get back to you promptly.

Although this is a two-part game, it's only a total of 8 hours for both parts, and it is possible for a player to only play one part. However, it's our opinion that playing both parts will make for a more enjoyable experience.
Regardless of whether or not you play in our game, I hope you find something entertaining to do this year at GenCon...there's a ton of stuff out there!
Happy LARPing! :)

There are also a bunch of LARPs being run by What the Puck (friends of ours...but a completely different company), and they usually put on a good game. They're breaking from tradition this year, and running a bunch of Call of Cthulu games. I also hear their Paranoia LARP is pretty fantastic, although this will be the first year I'll be playing in it...

There are a few Buffy related LARPs going on at GEN CON. Can someone give me some more details on those? I would like to check them out. Playing a vampire has gotten very old.

No idea about Buffy, as odd as it sounds, I'm a gamer that hates the show.
However, if playing vampires has bored you, consider trying he 7th Sea larps. I think there are a pair of them this year with different folks handling each one using the published system and the other with a homebrew that is every bit as good as the published system.
If they coincide or overlap, go with the Game Dana Devries is running, I had him write my Origins LARP this year and it's amazing. Whatever was better that he saved for himself will be well worth the time.

If you want a good Sci-fi LARP check out any of the 4 Nightfall Production LARPS. They're running Star Wars, BattleStar Gallactica, Firefly, and Babylon 5 LARPS.
I've played in their continuous chronicle Star Wars LARP and it's pretty fun as long as you don't take it too seriously.

LMAO Sorry!
The game around which we based that GenCon game is still being run (by me) among our own "home-town" group... Do you live anywhere near Philadelphia? ;)

Sorry, Boston for me. Ah, well. Enjoy your pirate vs. ninja vs. Garou vs. resort employee action!

Personally, as far as LARP's go I had never played in one until a few years ago. The Unofficial Gen Con LARP is what got me hooked on both LARP's and the World of Darkness setting. Its unsponsored and not listed in the event book but it has been running a continuous storyline for 14 years now. There are 5 full time ST's and one part time ST. Characters are allowed from Hunter, Wraith, Changeling, Werewolf, and Vampire. There are very few restrictions. You can be Camarilla, Sabbat, or Independent for Vampires; Almost any tribe as Garou; so on and so forth. We've had as many as 100 players at some Con's and everyone always has a blast. It runs starting at 6pm or so on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and goes until between 2am and 6am, depending on when the players get sleepy and filter out. There is also a short gathering on Sunday. The staff is very encouraging of player generated plots and they really roll with the punches, I don't think anyone has ever been flat told "No, you can't do that". I've seen some really neat and strange characters; a Limo eating Powrie, wraiths in tuxedos, Giovanni with authentic Italian accents, a bonegnawer with a magical coat that holds anything, a Malkavian who thinks he is Superman and really can Fly (unfortunately I think Batman jumped on a grenade and found out he really was Batman and not Superman.), and a variety of other things. We have messageboards that are used to plot and communicate throughout the year as we prepare for the next Con. It's actually the sole reason I go to Gen Con now. You can visit http://www.genconlarp.org but the site is out of date and in need of updates. (they are working on this) I would be happy to answer what questions I can and point you to an ST for the rest. We also welcome newbies, and don't worry about books. Give me a shout via email at smokeshow85@yahoo.com and I can give you what information you need.
