So I am putting together a Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 d20 game. We ran it at Conquest it ran about five hours. It worked off of the table top rules system. We used a 25 ft measuring tape this version is going to have all the bells and whistles props costumes and giant dice. I need to make a Battle Mat or would this be a Warmat anyway her is the space on this diagram. I need costumes. I found the dice. I have a writer. The game is set to run every two hours and it should be fun. I could use any help or input you have here is the floor plan.

Battle mat is simple. I assume you want to run the game with the players being there own miniature on a giant battle mat. Cool idea. Giant dice?! How big? Beach ball sized? Neat.

Anway, the battle mat. Simply get yourself some thick masking tape. Tape out a grid of 5 by 5 squares in the play space. There you go.

Thats going to be one hell of a chess game yo!

I need some material to mask (Any ideas). The dice will be from Toyvault they are very large and they come in tubes. If anyone is in my area and would like to help please do.Free Badge:). We have 10 characters all fairly high level. Need some nice props though. Also has anyone else done this?

Just thought of some more ideas you can play with.

Remember the masking tape idea? Heres an idea that may be fun. Cut up some large sheets of colored papers or may be some cheep table cloths. Place them in the squares to represent hindering terrain. You can use D&D miniatures for ideas. If you want to get real fancy, place large rocks potted plants, and other things like that to spice up you terrain.

As for masking material, I'd just use the thickest tape I could find to make the grid.

Here is an idea I came up with that might make the game so smother. I've been reading a card based game called Deliria that is very LARPible. I also know the alternate card system used in Unisystem and have played the new MET system that uses cards. Now all three systems are a roughly 1 to 10 scale. MET and Unisystem exist to simulate the dice rolls in there respective table top counter parts and Deliria has and extended scale that also includes face cards that can make or break a single action with spectacular results. So how can I make a card based system to simulate a roll of D20? Simple...

...Get yourself a deck of cards. Remove all face cards and jokers. This gives you a forty card deck of four suits of 1-10. The cards are handled by you narrators/assistance (players you trust). when you need to make an attack roll or skill test have the player draw a card. If the suit drawn is black they are read as is. Ace of spades and ace of clubs is a 1, failure. If the suit is red it is in the teens. Aces of hearts and diamonds are read as 11. Red 10s become 20ies, threaten critical! Each time a black ace or a red 10 are drawn, shuffle the deck.

If you have a small group, it may be fun to add the face cards. Face cards can represent random encounters, wandering monsters, or even the arrival of important NPC's. I only suggest doing this with a small group so you would be the only one with control of the deck. You could remove some face cards from the deck after certain one time encounters are played out. Its an idea.

When you get to the damage rolls I suggest ditching the dice and go with a flat damage. I do not remember if flat damage is listed in the 3.5 rules or not. Basically halve the die and add modifiers. So a sword doing 1d8+modifiers now dose 4 (8 divided by 2) + modifiers. This will speed play and cut down on players that insist on re-rolling so called 'cocked' die.

Hope this helps.

So, a turn-based skirmish larp on a grid? Any roleplay or just battling?

String would be cheaper and less messy than tape for making a ground grid. Just tape the string to the ground at the ends.
