I would like to invite you to participate in the formation of a LARP award for the LARP community, by the LARP community. The goal is to create an award that showcases work done by members of the community; a LARP fair. It doesn’t matter what style of LARP you play: World of Darkness/MET, boffer/live-combat, convention, freeform/theater/salon style, adventure style, or any other form.

This award will be open to LARPers (or LRPers, depending where your from) from around the world - those who live on the North American continent as well as those in Europe, Australia, and elsewhere - and all are invited to participate in the formation and participation of this award.

There is already some discussion going on in the discussion formums created for this project. I'd like to invite you to participate and provide input.

For more information regarding this project please visit http://www.free2w.com/larpawards/. You'll find a link to the discussion forum there as well.

Thank you for your time,
Amber Eagar
A fellow LARPer

P.S. If you know of a group, organization, or individual that would be interested, please feel free to pass this invitation along.

Edited to correct spelling mistake.

It'd be great to get some more feedback on this.

What do people think in general of the idea of awards for larp? A couple of years ago there was the Shadies, which was a set of awards for larp photos. That was pretty cool, you can see the winners and some more information here: http://www.larplist.com/Awards.php

Do you reckon these kind of community awards are a good idea? If so, what else apart from photos could be judged? Writeups and reviews? Websites? Larp businesses (based on their contribution to the community, for example)? Is it possible to judge actual larp events?

Amber's concept is to get input from as many larpers as possible about what kind of larp awards they would like, how they could be judged, etc. And then run something based on that. There's a forum set up for discussing it, and all input is welcome:

I'm not helping run it or anything, just enthusiastic about the idea and this approach to it.

When this project first began people from all over were more than happy to voice their opinion about what they did and did not want in a LARP/LRP award and enthusiastic about a grass roots project aimed at creating a LARP/LRP Award through community participation.

I do not nor will I do all the work on this, as this award was created as a community project for LARPers/LRPers from around the world to participate in. As a community project it requires community participation for it to thrive and succeed. I'm the moderator and the coordinator, not the sole decision maker in this project.

People have spoken up and many have shared how they think that a community created LARP/LRP award is a great idea. Now I need your help to make it happen. What can you do to help with this project right now? Participate in the forum discussions (http://www.mortalisrpg.com/Awardsforum/) and share your opinions and thoughts and place a banner (http://www.free2w.com/larpawards/promote.htm) on your web site if you have or administer one or in your forum signature area of LARP/LRP forums you post in.

To those who have provided input and support you have my thanks, it's been greatly appreciated.

Could you sell these awards to me a little more? At the moment, they're not grabbing me, but perhaps I'm missing something.

And did I read that entry agreement right? "LARPA may provide the entirety of the Entry free to the public or for sale"? So if I entered this competition, I'd have to grant you the right to publish my game?

Actually, apologies, on closer reading, that entry form is for a different competition, isn't it? I'd thought the "LARPA Small Game Award" was one of the "LARP Awards".

So ignore the second bit. But do sell these awards to me. I'm interested.

You're correct. The "LARPA Small Game Award" is a different competition that is focused on salon/convention style LARPs.

This project is open to all kinds of LARPs. I think the opening paragraph of the mission statment is a good description:

The mission of this project is to create a LARP award that is relevent across different genres and forms of LARP for the LARPing community, by the LARPing community. These LARP Awards shall be an independent award (not tied to any previous LARP awards that have been run) that will be created by the world wide LARP community to recognize and congratulate each other for our achievements and to encourage, inspire, and share ideas with each other for the betterment of the LARP/LRP hobby.
