How often do your LARPs meet? I've been in a weekly LARP, and am in two monthly ones. Do yours meet more often? Less often? Do you have continual play that is only temporarily interrupted by sleep and work?

How about downtime? How do you handle the times between game sessions?

Well... I run a game and we meet monthly.
In fact, all of the current larps that are running here in Edmonton are all monthly, excepting the one-shots.

As for downtime, personally I handle downtime by asking my players to submit in writing or via online forums, what they want to do and if I need to sit down with them over the month, I make time, or reply via the forums.

But I'm not a particularly strict organizer and I prefer narrative stuff to technical stuff.

Not all; there's an "Angels" game that runs about once every three months, IIRC.

(Unless it's ended. I haven't heard news about it in a good six months.)

But otherwise, yeah.

I do the Cam, which is usually monthly, save for the occasional Regional or National game, which takes place whenever the hell it wants.

Playing only independent met games twice a month, although the longest running game down here is 1st and 4th fridays. wich makes it slightly less frequent as some months dont have a 4th friday. Down time actions are mostly e-mailed/forum posted or written down at the end of game with a st. Although I've never had a down time action I was happy with, unless I actually talked to a storyteller, or it was really simple. Thats more of my problem then theirs though.

Most of the theatre-style (non live-combat) games I'm involved in are monthly, although I know of one which is every three weeks, just to confuse the issue.

The rubber-swording types that I've been involved in have a major events on most of the public holiday weekends through the summer and a couple of other summer weekends, with sporadic small events through the year.

I only LARP at cons, so two to three times a year.

Cambridge University Treasure Trap, which is my home LARP, runs every Friday and alternate Saturdays during term time (being a university-based LARP). We also run weapons practices sporadically, and are thinking of increasing the number of Saturdays we do. For reference, CUTT is a live-combat system, with tavern nights on the Fridays and linears on the Saturdays.

Downtime is handled by everyone emailing the refs with what they want to do that week (a couple of things have actual mechanics, like how many potions an alchemist can make and stuff, but mostly you just send a couple of paragraphs describing what your character's trying to do) and the refs meeting for several hours midweek to work out what happened (and organise everything else).

I organise a fantasy live-combat larp and we do that two times a year. That is more than enough, considering the time it takes to organise.

But off course I play also, another two times a year in a fantasy live-combat larp and 1 summer fest larp.

Here in Saskatoon, every regularly scheduled game runs monthly, usually on a Friday or Saturday... I believe currently that includes a Vampire: the Requiem game, a Vampire: The Masquerade game, and a Kingdom Come game.

One of the games used to run every two weeks, but that changed years ago. It seemed that when thing ran every two weeks, people got a lot more lax about attendance over time. So now they run every month just like the rest of us.

There are also a few non-regularily scheduled games that get run on the basis of "Whenever enough players are in one spot and the Storyteller feels up to it". In my experience, though, those games run far less frequently than monthly.

Of course, there's also the one-shots and the Cons. Since Saskatoon now has two micro-Cons that feature LARPs, number of one-shots being run has decreased a little outside of the cons, but not disappeared entirely.

Since I see some Albertans are in this forum, I'll just mention that one of our two Cons - SLARPCon - is coming up in a couple of weeks, June 23rd-25th. We've already got about a dozen folks from Edmonton coming down for it. Harry Potter LARP, Cthulhu Live!(modern day), Nightmare City(a Kingdom Come variant run by the creator), a Werewolf: The Wild West game, and a Shadowrun LARP/mini-Rave. Should be a ton of fun. Con website is www.slarpa.com. :)

Most of our year is scheduled once every 3 weeks, except in the summer (from now until August) where we only run once every 6 weeks.

I guess I go to 10 or so weekend events a year, but they are scattered at random times...two months with nothing, then one a week for a month.

in the cam as well, so each game once a month, with some one offs every so often (next one is a pirates freeform, should be sweet :) )
