A relatively late addition to the Zelda cannon it seems TP's attempts to be more hardcore have reached the point of mockable "EXTREEEEEME!!!" ness
Its possible this is a fanpic
A whole lot of things are possible
But well lets let this speak for itself.

TP?The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess - the upcoming Gamecube/Wii sequel to The Wind Waker.
It gets a lot of flak from Wind Waker fans for its graphical style; they think that by abandoning the bouncy, cel-shaded look of is predecessor, it's going out of its way to be "edgy" and "extreme".
Me, I don't see it - I think it's a natural progression. The Wind Waker is about Link as a little kid, and the graphics look like something out of a children's storybook. The Twilight Princess is about Link as a teenager, and the graphics look like something out of a teen-oriented graphic novel. It's thematic.
(I'm just wondering what the graphics would look like if the next game stars Link as an adult...)

"No, Zelda, don't look at me! I'm hideous!"
"Link, please," pleaded princess Zelda as she stroked a white feather. "You're not hideous. I think they're... beautiful..."

By the time the game came out, perhaps photorealistic.

Anything that mocks one of the strangest and most incomprehensible ideas on the internet (and yes, I'm fully aware of the enormity of that statement) is fine by me. :D

Anyone stop to think that maybe it's a Goron in it's workout gear? I mean really, when you're that big, and a primary mode of transportation is *rolling* your hefty ass all over the place don't you think you'd need some way to exercise those muscles?

It will be nigh indistinguishable from an animated feature in mural style, much like windwaker was for what of it I saw, with different artistic styles blending in as the years pass in a generational story that ends with link leading an army on the field to face Ganon's forces and then chase him deep in the First Labrynth which will lead to the homeplace of the Goddesses.
Or be celshaded with a better more widely appealing style and less empty ocean.
Ahem as for me I think it is safe to say Twilight Princess is rocking the LotR-vibe to make up for its backlash due to cries of "Cel-Da." I mean really have the Moblins looked more like orcish hordes? I have had no issue with the choice so far (well the teeny limbed boxing Goron from the preview movies was one issue of mine) but this....its just... well no, just no.

Looks fine to me. Can I use my dry wit on whiny Zelda "fans"?Feel free. From what I can see, most of the folks who are whining about the new Zelda titles betraying the spirit of the series are basing their complaints on some hypothetical version of Zelda that exists nowhere beyond the confines of their own heads.

It looks to me like someone thought to introduce body piercings and figured the Goron's all wanted 40 ounce cuffs or something through their shoulders.
That workout gear suggestion gives me some hope.
And I like dry wit, but come on this doesn't look...bad to you on some level?

Hopefully without spoiling anything, TP features a light world/dark world of some sort, yes?
Perhaps this is merely the Dark Goron.

I adore everything about the visual design of twilight princess I've seen so far. No change here. This pic is identifiably "zelda nastied up" in style, not too "kewl", not too cutesy, and the fusion isn't too silly either. It looks right and I likes it.

Okay this is officially looking fucked up. Will the main enemy in this installment be an Old One or something?
BTW i have no issue with the transvestite clowns. Especialling the one of the right. I hope they come with a run down circus or a street theatre minigame!

*cracks knuckles*
Ah, yes. A dungeon! A dank and sinister cavern, no doubt filled with all manner of strange beasts and deadly traps. Truly, this is a radical departure from Zelda's hallowed past.
And that farm girl, what's she'd doing there? Look at that outfit. Clearly a blood-soaked killer responsible for the tortured American McGee-style deaths of several chickens.
Boy, I sure am worried now.

The entrance to that dungeon is looking mighty scary and weird and different. Like the top of a beholder, a hand of all thumbs, or snakes all at once. Plus we have transvestite clowns...Ya know I thought she might be a circus master or animal caretaker. We have weird but kinda cute people with each Zelda installment ya know like tingle. But still, tranvestite clowns. Once you add clowns my "some fucked up shit is going to go down" meter is activated
This is looking freaky I just wonder what this is all culminating into. Could be all awesome with a side of wow. Could be going a little too far the other way. Could be does everything great but then comes off as forced. Could be something that puts Nintendo on the map. Could be Poochie.
I am more- hmm - scared than worried. I mean I've had this on reserve for over a year. If its coming out for the Gamecube I am getting it. Just " let's make a superpierced Goron, with black gear, METAL black gear" and I start seeing this as the could be awesome but will end up lame. The other designs are well done but hint at something really nasty. Instead of straight up boys quest through the world seems there might be some psychotronic remixing or even horror added in. Where as other shots seemed just more lotr meets zelda... plus lycanthropy, this seems ... well something else. again could be something awesome but also could end up looking a little bit much like the barbwire tattoo
aside> All the Gorons we've been seeing in the trailers are attacking link... wonder if that means anything. Before they wouldn't get off their asses to keep them from starving to death. Now they box and attack.
I do remember hearing/seeing about the Dark/Light world (gee nintendo really gets mileage out of that concept... was a little "meh" to it before, now I'm ancioous wondering what its all going to end up being) so there being Dark analogues of all the people... heh, cool. Still seems weird with their teeny limbs.

Instead of straight up boys quest through the world seems there might be some psychotronic remixing or even horror added in.Past Zelda games have gotten pretty screwed up in places, too. I mean, the whole Hyrule thing in The Wind Waker? That straddles the line between surreal and horrific right there; not so much "boo, scary!", but it's subtly disturbing on multiple levels.
(Pretty much the entirety of Majora's Mask was more than a little disturbing, too, if you think about it. You're stuck in a time loop t-minus three days to the Apocalypse, and you have to fight a demonic imp using magical masks that cause you to undergo bizarre physical transformations - that's way beyond the merely whimsical.)

I need to finish Wind Waker I'm spoiled on some things but right now am at some weird point with the Deku Tree quest and getting the Forest/Wind Sage to help repower my blade. I also know that I can look forward to the Triforce of Courage quest that seems to have pissed off everyone who's PLAYED the game much more than the graphics drove off everyone who didn't. Not looking forward to that.
MM, yeah MM was the dark psychological other of Ocarina of Time (the fourth Nintendo Zelda game). Still as you said it was subtly scarey and freaky. Sorta like an Astro Boy story or something. Very cute, amazing, but also surprisingly deep and "adult" in places. This is looking well like ... well hmm I don't know
BTW what Teen Graphic Novels does this remind that poster who said that of? I like comics and wonder what style or stories or like that.

I've been consistently reminded of the Rocky Horror Picture Show while viewing the art from the last 3 games or so (including game boy games). Come on, what else could you call Twinkle by a 'sweet transvestite'?

Well, those chickens are hardcore. They can take more punishment than any boss, and when you piss them off, they summon hordes of other chickens to slaughter you with. Anyone who can kill them must be preety tough ;)

(Pretty much the entirety of Majora's Mask was more than a little disturbing, too, if you think about it. Majoras mask has nothing on Links Awakening for tragicness. The ending to that is positively tearjerking. At least MM has a happy ending.
