I enjoy this column a lot. I like seeing the business side of things from someone who is trying to make money in the industry. I know hobby folks are very reluctant to give numbers, but I was wondering if you think you are going to recoup your expenses in GenCon? Of course you do or you wouldn't have spent it right? but see my column request below. It seemed like you spent a fair amount of money on the Con.
The advice I was given when I was making a game was "If you want to make a small fortune in gaming..." (you know the rest)
So I published my game as a vanity press - following Sandy's $1,000.00 model.
What I do not think people realize is the incredible amount of work that goes into making a viable game company. I have owned my own business before, which contributed greatly to me deciding from the beginning I was going to blow my money on a vanity press and not try to make $ at it.
After much rambling, here is my request for a future column:
What was your biggest waste of money in hindsight?
I would especially be interested in seeing this column next July or in one of your last columns if you conclude before then.
Keep up the great columns and thanks.
