Scrollworks is a small fry. I don't have any desire to do Scrollworks full time, nor do I picture it getting so popular that I would be able to derive much of an income from it. However, it is my baby and I want to see it do well. Not only for my own ego, but for the sake of the contributors. A more popular Scrollworks means more money for the freelancers. Having said that, I have a question regarding the most effective allocation of advertising funds.

With only a few hundred dollars to spend, would I be best served:

a) Buying banner ads on rpg oriented web sites

b) Buying a print ad in a popular print mag (I imagine that I would only be able to afford one)

c) Print up a bunch of extra copies to hand out at conventions

d) Print up scads of flyers and postcards instead

I would love to do all of the above, but the budget prohibits that.

To help you answer that question, I should mention that most of my sales come from the following areas, in order of volume.

1) People who respond to the news at EN World whenever I post a blurb about a new issue being available

2) People who subscribed after receiving a give away copy, or borrowing a friend's copy

3) Folks from RPG.net who have read my posts and then ventured to scrollworkspress.com after seeing the link in my sig

4) Reviews and high praise from prominent industry personalities

Thanks!

Christian, I do this kind of thing for a living --- specifically here in the game industry. Look over my site and let me know if there is something I can help you with.
