I'm an artist who is doing artwork for the upcoming 5th Edition Champions rule book. I've just posted a couple of samples in Ads/O[pen Promo section... so you can see I'm fairly serious.

I've been in a Champions campaign for 10 years, I just recently bowed out of... so I know the source material.

For my 5th edition art assignment, I have several "open" slots. Meaning, it is up to me to illustrate something fun/cool/useful...etc.

So my questions are this; What are somethings that fans of Champions would like to see artwise in the book? Is there some comic book troupe you've always wanted to see hugging those lines of text of special effects, disadvantages and optional rules?

Here is your chance to play a bit of art director. I've got plenty of ideas, but I'm curious to what makes y'all really like a certain theme of artwork. "more good art" will be ignored <g>. I'll do my best to make every piece "good".

Now the leanings of the book are toward super heroes, but it is a book of cross-genre rules. I've been told that there is plenty of fantasy artwork already commissioned for the book. So, I wont'e be doing any of that. But keep in mind, we should strive for a more superhero support illustration.

Hmm...

perhaps some illustrations that show specific HERO rules: a presence attack, haymaker, etc.

The Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon style of space opera is woefully underrepresented, as is manga, or post-apocalypse. Some horror might be nice too.

As for super stuff, perhaps a massive team vs. team battle, a danger room shot or a kid reading a comic book featuring the Champions, with the cover prominently shown. "This issue, Seeker dies!" or some such. :)

Also a big cross-genre group shot like the back of the HSR could be fun.

Y'know, I'm not sure about the status of Champions characters or other names from the Champs Universe. Steve Long is lurking around somewhere, perhaps he can shed some light on the subject.

Buck Rogers/ Flash Gordan... hmmm? I like it.

Unfortunately, I don't have the space for massive team vs team battles. I am only doing 1/4 pagers. But I love the idea.

And we are doing some specific rules shots (tport is an example of that), I've go the pencils down for paramedic skill, just haven't inked it.

I think it would be great to see a picture of a Bruce Lee look-alike martial artist fighting a giant robot. I mean, a REALLY BIG robot. Kung fu versus technology.

Not only would it be amusing, but it would be something that most Champions players probably have firsthand experience with. <smirk>

Harly, check out the Ads/Open Promo area. Just uploaded an illo that I took your suggestion to heart.

Giant robots, martial arts... ok she's a babe, instead of Bruce, but the gist of the idea gets across.

Great idea. I had to run with it!

Whatabout a illo which shows the different visual styles of which make up the "superhero thing"?

Something like a Kirby-esque hero teaming with a Matrix-type hero (lotsa black leather) against an over-the-top Image-type villain?

One of the great things about the superheroic genre is that it's where other genres meet for lunch.
