I started a thread in Tabletop Roleplay Open regarding creating a NPC Database in the RPG.Net wiki. I didn't know that the wiki had its own thread. I was wondering if there was something like this already or not. Here is my original write-up:
I started another thread recently regarding character creation. I was surprised by the number of high quality write-ups that started coming in. This made me think that it would be cool to have an NPC database on RPG.Net where you could go to search for characters (not published previously or based on a copyrighted character) for any system so if a GM needed a character on the fly, they could come here to get it. I am not sure if there is already something here that does that. The Wiki might be a cool place to put this stuff. Are there any legal issues why this might not work? I figure that as long as you are not being charged, but I might be wrong. I am not sure if anyone would even use this. Not sure, just throwing the suggestion out there.

Wondered what everyone thought?

Don't know if it's in the works, but I'd certainly be willing to contribute some write-ups.

Personally, I'm not really sure... NPCs tend to be specific to one group's game.

Maybe if you put up NPCs for established settings (not the 'official' ones, of course: they're copyrighted).

Hm...

I think NPCs can be very useful if offered with lots of plot hooks.

And, yeah, ones specific to a certain setting usually have more room for depth.

Exactly...not trying to put copyrighted material on the Wiki. Just trying to make a place where you can get original character write-ups. Adding plot hooks would be good as well as ShannonA mentioned.
