To the Group,
I'm approaching completion on a small RPG project that should run roughly 56 pages. I've set it up to be roughly 1 page artwork for every 5 pages text. The font is Times-Roman 10 point in two columns. The artwork will be pen & brush inkwork without gray tones--strictly black line work. The size will be 81/2 by 11 inches when finished. Color will be restricted to the cover and the whole thing saddle stitched.
Does anyone have any experience with this small a project. Is it feasible and what should the shelf price be?
Any comments, opinions or advise would be appreciated,
Thanks in Advance,
Lord Iron Wolf
P.S. For beta testing, does anyone know how to insert a full page width picture in Word 2000 when the page setup is for two column?

You've just described my college monograph. Well, it was A4, not letter.
Make sure it's on good paper (those pollen ones are nice), if you don't want it to look really like my college papers.

If your intention is to try and get the book into distribution then do yourself a favor: add some content and run the page count up to 64 pages and have it perfect bound. With saddle stitching there is no spine. With no spine, many stores won't want it on their shelves. If you aren't a GPA member, consider joining. Lots of people there could offer price advice for you, and many other suggestions.

A very strong piece of advice-- do not use Word 2000 for your final product. You'll be better off with Pagemaker. Word and it's family members is not really set up for full publishing, and you may see some grim results if you send that into a printer. Most professional printers prefer to see Quark Xpress, Pagemaker, InDesign or a PDF file generated off one of those utilities.

In older versions you can add a text box and then place a picture inside of that. Then of course change then text box to "No Line" and/or "No Fill" as desired.

To all who put in their two cents worth, thanks.
The more I use MS Word for anything approaching publishing, the less I like it. It's just a text editing program with too many bells and whistles and just too damn quirky. It's probably great for office documents but nowhere where I need it for publishing anything with a professional look to it.
I'll probably download the test version of InDesign from www.adobe.com and try it out to see if I like it or if I go nuts trying to use it.
