View Full Version : [3.5 Midnight] looking for character picture

Hello all, this is my first post! I'm about to start a game of D&D 3.5 in the Midnight setting, which is a low magic, dark fantasy world where evil has won the great war and rules the world with an iron fist, with weapons, armor, magic, and even literacy illegal, and the gods cut off from the world by dark magic.

Anyway, I've mostly finished my character, but need a picture to represent him. He's 6'1, 180 pounds with brown hair, and is fit and strong. He's a human from Erenland, which seems to be the average fantasy kingdom type deal. He's a defender, which is similar to a monk, and dresses like a carpenter. Ideally, I'd like him to have heavy clothes, as defenders are allowed to wear padded armor. (defenders being less about the spiritual aspects of the martial arts and more about fighting oppressors without calling attention to yourself, using only weapons that double as tools, and padded armor which can be mistaken for thick clothes.)

He has the Pureblood heroic path (Heroic paths are an additional feature you take during character creation, giving you new abilities every level. Magic items are illegal, and the forces of evil have very efficient ways of finding them, so the heroic paths, of which there are many to choose from, help compensate.) which means that he is of noble blood and a strong leader, although he dresses like a commoner. He's armed with a quarterstaff, a sling, and a great sling. (Two handed.) He travels as a carpenter, not wanting to draw attention to himself, and so if it looks cool a few tools would be neat.

I looked on GIS, but I couldn't find anything suitable. I would very much appreciate any help! Thanks in advance!

Wait! Wait! Here's "Action NeonDante's character"

http://www.clair-obscur.ch/2003/images/jesus.jpg

ah, sacrilegious fun. :D I'm just having a little laugh here, we're all still friends, right?

Seriously though, if you can't find a pic of your guy, why don't you go and use the Hero machine (http://www.ugo.com/channels/comics/heroMachine2/heromachine2.asp)? it's how i make most of my character's first portraits.

Yeah, I thought of that, actually. :p The reason I took Craft (carpentry) is to qualify for a certain prestige class I have to have 8 ranks in either a craft or profession skill that was representative of the common people of the area. And I decided on carpentry because A: the tools are somewhat portable B: there's always a need for a good carpenter and C: It could occasionally come in handy while adventuring. (a guy can hope) But remembering that there was already a carpenter who was a great leader clinched it for me. :)

I'm not basing myself on Him, though, and I didn't take a vow of poverty, though I do expect poverty in this squalid, oppressed world. (for one thing, it's a barter system, and coins are next to worthless.)

Ahh, right, well maybe you should use the Hero Machine (http://www.ugo.com/channels/comics/heroMachine2/heromachine2.asp) link, like i suggested in my last post. Great way to flesh out your character without having a lick of drawing talent...

Their heroes come out looking like This:

With assorted tweaks and color changes.

Okay, I gave it a try. Unfortunately, my print screen key doesn't seem to be working. This is about right, though...

Phew. Now if someone can tell me how to print screen without using the key, or make that into a jpg, I would be very much obliged.

Very nice! Now, load him back up in hero machine, and here's how to print:

The button RIGHT BELOW the "save" button, is the "print" button. Worked for me.

Oh, wait... you want a jpeg...

Hang on.

Yeah, turns out the only way you can save the Heromachine image as a jpeg is if you actually buy the program (http://www.heromachine.com/index.php#order)...

Now, since this is a good-aligned website, I won't tell you to go out and get a torrent of it, nor will i reccomend any of a myraid of places that offer the heromachine torrent.

I WILL reccomend the old standby: print it -> scan it -> jpeg.

Thanks man, but I don't have a printer or a scanner.

Can someone maybe load it, screencap it, and make that screencap into a jpg?

Awesome man, thanks a lot. Although the staff isn't there for some reason.

Anyway, I'm not sure what the etiquette is on this, being a noob and all, but if I'm allowed, take one Midnight point!

well, basically, if you check the Fantasy Flight forums, or the Against The Shadow site, you may find lots of midnight players with pics to send you/posted in art galleries...

I've registered for against the shadow. Do you have a link for fantasy flight?

Also, I thought of a simpler way to describe him. He's a handsome, fit commoner, with brown hair and clean shaven, although I'd rather have a good picture with facial hair then a bad one without. His clothes are workmanlike and somewhat padded. He's unarmed, except for a staff.

I've been looking more, but I still can't find anything. There's plenty of knights and wizards and barbarians on the internet, but I suppose expecting people to paint an interesting, heroic looking picture of a commoner is a bit silly.

Still, if anyone can point me to a place I can find one, I would be very grateful.
