I'm kicking around an M&M game where the PCs have been granted some (maybe all, I'm not sure yet) of the powers of Greek gods, thereby to stand against the avatars of the Persian gods who are trying to unmake the world.

I think maybe M&M is my system and I'm poking around my 1e book trying on a few powers for size. I'm having a lot of trouble with one, and I'm hoping some of RPG.net's faithful M&M acolytes will show up and help.

I want to build a power that will allow a character, after an appropriate period to concentrate, to be able to locate another superhero, no matter where they are on the planet. I'm not looking for precise street addresses here, but somewhere within a few hundred yards.

The limitations are that it would take some concentration time, you could only hold one being's location in your head at a time, and you'd need specifics, such as the person's name of basic identification information about the powers they have.

This might come with a general "Spidey Sense" that lets the PC know that there are beings with super powers in the general area.

Does that make sense?

Can it be done?

I cannot break it down in 1E because I am not that familiar with the system but in 2E this is just a simple Detect:

Super-Sense 20 (Detect (Super-Powered Individuals) 1, Radius 1, Extended 16, Acute 1, Analytical 1) Action (Full-Phase) -3, Can only track one at a time: -1, Sustained Duration: -1) Cost: 4 points

That would allow you to find super-powered individuals within 16,000 mile radius around you and determine who they are. You would need a Full-Round Action to find them. You would be limited to only finding one person at a time, and the duration would be Sustained, so if you were Stunned or knocked out you would lose their location without a Concentration Check.

I've moved on to 2E and can't quote page numbers or anything, but I do remember that "Cosmic Power" has an element that detects other sources of cosmic power at pretty impressive ranges. It used a Spot check IIRC.

You could just pull that element out of "Cosmic Power" and treat it as a 1pp/rank ability defined to locate other gods.

Yes.

Er. Except I only know 2e.

Under Super-Senses, "Awareness", specified as "Superpowers" and "Mental sense group", with "Extended Range", that limitation/drawback where the power takes time to go off, and a drawback of some sort to represent the "must have info" limitation you mention. For the Spidey-Sense add-on, I'd probably do a similar power, with the radius extra, no extended range, and *either* Linking it, or making it an Alternate Power feat of the original. Or, buying it as a second Super-Sense, and making it permanent.

Thanks for the responses.

I don't have 2e yet, but it looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet, doesn't it?

Only if you want to be truly happy with your superhero gaming. :)
