Is it too early yet to ask for a fan-made character sheet that isn't hideously ugly?

No. But it is too early to actually get one.

It is amazing that the first official character sheets for any particular game are often mediocre at best, isn't it?

True. But TBH I don't think I've met an official character sheet I liked since Buffy/Angel, and even that one had too much froofy ink-sucking background art on it.
My major problems with this one are:
-they haven't sized the .pdf to a regular sheet of paper, which means a lot of wasted space
-the nigh-unreadable font
-the boxes that should have an ability greyscaled in so you can write your bonus over it are printing said ability too darkly to write over easily.
If I were one to abuse my powers, I'd say the first person who brings me a non-sucky character sheet can ban a spammer, or something, but that would be bad and wrong. Sigh. :( ;)

Such an action might put you on a dangerous path towards the Dark Side. :D

Go on the Wizards (mess hall) forum, I don't have links offhand, but I've already downloaded 3 differnt sheets, and a very functional excell spreadsheet.
so...no, it's not too early to ask. :)

I can only download one, the rest are hosted on a site that wants me to create a login and other such rubbish.
Anyone here working on one, or know who I should suck up to?

What, Mediafire? (seems to be where most are housed)
Shouldn't require a login -- at least, it didn't from me.
General consensus is that this one is looking the best so far:

Strange, I didn't have that problem? Other than the Wizards own character sheet, 3 other people had threads that said, "here's my character sheet" (on of the an excell one), and I clicked the link and they downloaded.

It's not allowing anyone not registered to download it. Do you know of alternate hosting sites it may be on?

Yes it does. Don't know why it won't work for you. Maybe try going through a proxy?

I think I see the problem. If you try downloading it from the first page you can't. You need to ckick on that, which takes you to an actual download page.
For the record, I didn't have that sheet yet...so that makes 4 charcter sheets I've downloaded and one excell sheet. So far I like this one, and the excell one the best. :)

No problem now. I was trying to download it from the "download to my files" section (the one on the right) rather than the other link.

REAL RPGers have character sheets that are blank sheets of paper.
Character sheets. Skill charts. A gamer craves not these things.

I remember the good old days of lined or graph paper. Then someone came along and designed a character sheet. Now, there are all these high falutin multi-page documents that need a table of contents or an index. Hell, my old D&D GM used to hand us characters on a 5X8 index card!
I must be getting old... :D

My personal favorite sheet I've seen so far is this one by MagicPrime:

http://www.fscwv.edu/users/jfairchild/char2.pdf
I've made a few adjustments of my own, but these are minor things.

Damn, those are nice. Nevermind, there's no need for me to make a sheet. This suits.

Funny story. I almost always just use a sheet of paper to record my character, but the people at my gaming club get weirded out by it. In fact, I've been in a couple games there where they actually made me use a character sheet, instead of my own scrap of paper.

I've made a pdf of the Saga Charm... err, Talent Trees. Base Classes and Force only (and no Web Supplement 1) so far, and I'm not an artist (and it shows). But, it's functional, has the name of the Talent, and arrows indicating prerequisites, and boxes for checkmarks or numbers. They are not "pretty", but they are quite functional.
Anyone who wants, feel free to PM me an email! or point me to free document hosting...
I've been pointed to RapidShare. To try them out, I've put the talent tree document here (http://rapidshare.com/files/38655575/talents.pdf).
I've also decided to try out MediaFire. Link to their copy is here (http://www.mediafire.com/?4w1m3smsi4m).

Does anyone else find themselves just typing up their characters in statblock format, and playing off that? Maybe adding the condition track or something to it?
Because I have been lately. Maybe it's just because I GM so much and am used to writing up my NPCs in that form. I'm used to referencing them in those compact statblocks.

It is very professional looking (looks just like the official one). Fits on 8x11, some extra room for things, etc. This is the one I'm going to be using.

Yeah, that one's awesome. I rather like the look of the official sheet, but didn't want to use it because of it's smaller size. I'm glad somebody modded it P-)

You had cards? We had to write ours in black permanent marker on our skin. You look at checking for traps a lot differently when erasing a sheet involves a hot shower and an intimate half-hour with a bar of Lava soap.

I had a thought last night. I think it'll take a fair bit of wrangling to get it to an acceptable size (index card 3"x5" at the most). Here's the evolution of the thought process:
1) I don't have minis, I should get counters.
2) If I had counters, I could print the same picture on an "initiative card"
3) Tag the counter and initiative card both with an id number.
4) I don't really want to deal with writing down hp and stuff - it would be much better to use paper clips.
5) Thus, then, run along three edges: one has 10 20 30 40 etc, another 1 2 3 4 5 etc, and the last the Condition Track.
6) If I'm doing that, why couldn't I put in the full stat block at the same time?
So! What I'm aiming to do is make up an Initiative/Stat card, with a picture area, stat block (in the Standard Saga Style) area, with hopefully enough space. I want do Stormtroopers 1-6 + officer, Rebel Troopers 1-6 + officer. Any other generics I should include in that?

Okay, I'm a WEG D6 wonk. Here's my first attempt at a RETRO Saga Character Sheet (http://www.342ndmsg.com/Files/OldSchoolSAGASheet.pdf)
I know it's missing equipment and languages, but I was trying to maintain functionality while keeping the general look of the old-school sheets.

Done the blank character card template. Am now going to put multiple per page (sadly, the size I chose means that there's a bunch of wasted space. At least they're separated from each other, though...), and put in some Storm Troopers. You'll see the PDF once I'm done!
And I'm done with Storm Troopers. here (http://www.mediafire.com/?e3hbtmoyd2b).
