When you are the leader of a party how far will you go to maintain harmony and boost the party as a whole? Tonight we fought our way into a gnoll encampment and got some treasure from the cheif. One of the itmes was a robe of scintalating(sp?) colors. I took this as I am the wizard. When I got back to Highmoon I found out what this does. Lets say its not on my list of wants. So I decided to sell the thing and after some negotiating I got 18000 gps. The first trhing I did was inventory the party to see what was needed. This surprised the other players. This was my pick after all. Would you as the leader use this money to equip you and them or just you?

If the leader's role is to best outfit the party, and you're the best outfit, you get a given item.

If we're talking equal wealth shared between the party to divvy up as they see fit, then the leader failed due to showing preference to himself.

Basically it depends if the leader is right or left wing. :D

A lot of that first question depends on both the players involved and the characters they are playing, so I can't really answer.

If the money was recieved from the sale of a magic item awarded my PC, then I could do with it as I see fit. As leader, I think that the money would be best used to make the party as a whole stronger, not just my own character.

I was thinking along the same lines. When we split treasure its usualy pretty loose. If we see something we like we generally ask for it and if noone has a problem then you get it. We have never had a problem with someone taking something just to sell it though. When I got the robe it was not so I could sell it. It was oh here its mystical and nobody wants it give it to the wizard. I had passed on a wand of bull str to the cleric. (he gets in the front line with the fighters while I don't). I got a scroll for my spell book and was mostly happy. Not all of were here last night a couple of drove up to Hershey park, so anything I get won't include them. It was our little mini adventure after all. I have started to look at various items and I am going to get a couple of things here and there. One got an expensive sword so I am goimng to bypass him. But for the cleric its either a peraipt of wisdom or gauntlets of ogre str. Like I said he gets into hand to hand combat. I want to get something for myself that can help out the party. I have 11500 gps. What can I get to help me AND the party at the same time. A bag of holding did cross my mind, alonng with a necklace of fireballs.

well, basically, when I wind up leader, I try to maintain harmony by listening to the other players, being open to suggestions, and making small efforts to mediate disagreements. Serious disagreements must be settled by themselves, as it would be wrong to take sides.

As for would I spend my GP on other players? Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, and being a leader doesn't matter. Current dnd game, I bought a lot of potions that got handed around when needed, and nobody offered to pay me back OR bought more potions when they had a chance. On the other hand, everybody chipped in for Raise Dead spells. So I guess it depends on how I envison the specifc character and how the other players are behaving.

If generosity is part of your personality or your char's personality, fine! If tactical considerations are motivating you, fine! If you are having fun, FINE! If you think you are hurting yourself, being taken advantage of, etc, stop. Your move, chummer.

What makes you the group leader? Your answer will probably explain your approach to loot division.

My groups rarely have a leader unless it's a war campaign or something similar. Party face, yes, single authority making decisions for the whole party, hell no.

I'm the one who orginizes things. I'm the one who makes the plans. And I am by the most experanced player. Most of the time I'm the DM and they have problems looking out for each other. I am very partycentric. I think of the group as a whole. We are one made of individuals instead of a group of individuals working as some type of coherrant thing. I think its more for unity when I play. We can work real well together when there is a strong leader. I like when I run werewolf and one specfic player takes the role of alpha. They get much done and have fewer causalites. When I sit as a leader I hate for anyone to die on my watch. I take responsability for the group

I know that sounds a little controling and maybe a bittle of an egomanic but if everyone gets the best out of there character then every body has a better time.
