View Full Version : Oi! Why won't the Gaming Index accept my entree?

I'm trying to enter four little journals called INTER-ACTION (Issue 1), and Interactive Fantasy (Issues 2-4) that I have copies of from the mid-1990s.

They were edited by Andrew Rilstone, and had lots of interesting articles written by all sorts of famous game designers.

But it won't let me enter it as an alternative title, on the magazine list.

What gives?

I have no idea why you can't add them, but I have those books. They certainly deserve to be in the index!

Because it's not the cooking index...? :p

Make sure to choose "Add a Magazine", then "Other" in the name field, then the name in the "Other" field.

If you're seeing an error after you do that, please report back what it is.

And in the meantime I'll go find some new magazine not yet entered to make sure I haven't broken anything;). I just tightened up security today because I was getting inundated with 500+ spam entries a day.

[Moving this over to the new shared index discussion folder.]

Might be related: I've noticed yesterday and today that a number of articles have gone missing from individual magazines. Furthermore, if those articles belong to a column, there will be a curious blank entry in the column listing where it shows a link to the issue in question but no article title or link. Scroll to the bottom here for an example.

Edit: Huh. Wonder why my HTML isn't working? Let's try this: http://index.rpg.net/display-column.phtml?relid=783

Edit 2: It looks like the missing articles are almost all editorials. Check this out: http://index.rpg.net/display-column.phtml?relid=1022

Hmm. Looks like "Information: General" articles with system "Generic" are also gone. http://index.rpg.net/display-column.phtml?relid=1289

It's not related, but I think it was a result of trying to weed out spam the other day.

Oi. I'll try and see if I can piece it back together from backups, but not tonight.

Yep. That's absolutely what happened. It looks like I should be able to restore from Friday morning, then write a program to copy all the newer data from the current database to the restored one.

So, that's what I'll do sometime Sunday ...

(And that's why I was tightening up security, because we were getting sooo much spam that it was inevitable that I was going to catch something real when cleaning it up. Apparently I was ever so slightly too late.)

Alrighty, I've pieced everything back together as best I could. Anything before early evening on Friday should be fine, anything after will have some of these Generic elements missing, but the rest of the content is fine. I know there are holes in Pyramid #8 and #9 and Interaction #1 unfortunately seems to fallen entirely into this. If you could reenter these missing articles, that'd be great.

Apologies for the problem.
