I had not seen or heard of the positive and negative die rolls where you keep the lower number. It definitely would be quicker! Thanks.

Nice column, especially pointing out the fact that a lot of the differences among systems are cosmetic, not actual.
You are a hair off on D20 criticals, however. 18-20 is the largest range a weapon normally has. However, it is quite possible to do better than that via feats, spells or magic weapons. For instance, if you have a 19-20 weapon with Improved Critical, it becomes a 17-20 weapon.
