An additional hazard are bog bursts when an upland raised bog bursts, flooding the area below with mud or the whole top layer slides. Quite dangerous. Occurs most often in wetter months.

In Ireland ancient stone walls have been found below peat bogs where an area that was once farmland was covered by bog when the climate deteriorated. Also of interest in showing how old field divisions such as stone walls can be.

Some book recommendations.

The Life and Death of a Druid Prince by Anne Ross and Don Robins.
A superb account of the discovery and investigation of a bog body and the society that led to such burials. Very, very useful for RPGs especially horror and anything even vaguely based on Norse or Celtic mythology.

The Man in the Moss by Phil Rickman
A horror story set in an isolated English village surrounded by bog. An excellent story that draws heavily on the volume above. Great for Call of Cthulhu or even some of the White Wolf games.
