RPGS: Stargate D20 springs to mind of course, and modern day settings running from Feng Shui and Buffy to Millennium’s End or GURPS Special Ops would be fine, but magic doors to other dimensions can add spice to almost any campaign using almost any game, as a spark of variety as a one-off or the basis of a whole series. Pick your favourite and go nuts.
And Nexus The Infinite City (http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=2068)! :)

And Nexus The Infinite City (http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=2068)! :)
Nexus is useful for almost ANY campaign idea. If I mention it every time, I'm gonna get tired... :)

Excellent idea for a column Steve, I'll be reading and stealing with glee.
And Nexus is indeed one of the unsung gems of our hobby. Everyone should have a copy.

Nice idea. I like it.
Puts me in mind of (but actually very much more CoC) the case of the murder of Charles Walton of Lower Quinton in Warwickshire in the 1940s (some links with a few details: http://www.whitedragon.org.uk/articles/charles.htm and http://www.bbc.co.uk/coventry/features/weird-warwickshire/1945-witchcraft-murder.shtml)
Similarly there are the out of place London coppers investigating something with hints of the occult and general nastiness.

So what happens when two cops from Manchester are on holiday... say, around 1973 when this happens?
Gene Hunt in space. There really is Life on Mars.
;)
Interesting column, Steve. And no, I'm not here.
I'm working. Strewth I am.

BTW, if anyone can think of a section or thing they want added or addressed for each idea, let me know pronto - because I've got six of these already ready to go, so it will take a while for your changes to be made!
