View Full Version : Space Combat Games!

So I recall people not so long ago complaining about the lack of space combat games. I know that feeling - it's gotten so dry that I've reinstalled X-Wing Alliance for kicks.
But a mate of mine dropped me a hint about a free BGS game going on. It's one of those Freespace 2 mods and it's damn pretty - just watch the video (http://www.game-warden.com/bsg/)! It's only a three-level demo at this point, but it looks to be shaping up well - I've played it through and it certainly feels authentic, even though FS2 games never seem to have visible cockpits!
It also reminded me that there are other Freespace games going, like the B5 mod and I've Found Her.
Does anyone know of any other indie space games that I can try out?

Damn, I keep meaning to check that out and forget.
(Mostly replying to bookmark this thread :) ).
I've been playing the Frontierspace mod for Freelancer recently. Adds another 100 systems or so to the game. In the end, you're still playing Freelancer, though, so it's only good for about 2 or 3 weeks of obsessive playing before it wears out.
I could see this being a hell of a lot of fun with a bunch of friends and a server though.

I picked up the Freelancer mod too, though I got distracted with a BFII mod to try it yet. My mate has it and says it's pretty damn good.
Apparently you can buy cruisers, so I've earmarked one of those pretty jap things...I just need the money...

Yeah, it's a source of constant bitterness that all the really pretty ships* are usually way out of my budget.
* Oh, like just about everything the Kusari make, period.

Hehehehe...before I picked up my Titan, I had abut 700K in the bank...
Actually, what price range are cruisers?

I'd guess somewhere over 6 or 7 million judging from some of the weird stuff I've seen on sale.
I love the weird stuff you can buy--like the construction ships and trains.
It's not as messed up, though, as this one kitchen sink mod I played where you could buy a FedEx Truck. Yes, a FedEx truck in Freelancer. It was beautiful.

Soo...what you're really saying is that I shouldn't install X2 yet because I have a long way to go?
