OK for my first post here (ever), does anyone know of a cheap(er), program to convert files to PDF format?

$400.00 Canadian is just too darn much for me at this time (which is what I'd be paying for Acrobat).

Thanks i advance,

Sir Francis

You can always use Adobe's Web Create. It's a service tht allows you to upload files to Adobe and get PDF's back. While I havn't used it myself, I know a few who have and say that they get decent results, but it fairly requires connectivity greater than a modem will provide.

The service goes for 10$US a month, or 100$US a year. That's less thn your 400$ Canadian, but you don't get the actual software.

I know some folks here in Indianapolis who have taken classes at a small university and as part of the class been able to buy a cheeper educational version of various Adobe products.

Of course, there are always less costly, and less legal options.

Depends what kind of files you have. Phil Masters recommends this (http://www.ps2pdf.com/convert/convert.htm) and I have used this more complicated PHP code here (http://www.interakt.ro/products/Yaps/index.php).

Apparently Ghostscript (http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/index.html) is nifty too but awkward to use.

You could always look around this page (http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Word_Processors/PDF/?tc=1) on Google.

If you are using a Mac (we can always hope), Print2PDF is an outstanding printer driver that lets you make PDFs from a desktop printer icon (ala Distiller) and is $15 shareware.

Greetings,

If you're using a Mac and running Mac OS X, you can convert any document to pdf. Just choose Print, then Preview, then save the document as .pdf when the preview opens.

Well that was fun :(

A whole day spent trying to get a Free PDF Writer. It was however worth it as I have won the battle! I managed to get FreePDF to work (not a simple task). :D

Thanks for the sites,

Fran

If you're familiar with HTML then something like HTMLDOC is a quick and easy PDF creator. It should be available in a free, but very usable version here (http://www.easysw.com).
