Well, thanks for the review...
but, every one of those links were broken! :(
Mostly, it sounds like FUDGE with a slightly different die-roll mechanic.

Thanks for the review, Chris! You do a great job of laying out the system.
I'm guessing you wrote it in MS Word and ported it over? Word and some other programs use open and close quotes, which don't work right for HTML links. I often have to go back through and redo the links in my own posts/reviews when this happens.
I'm sure you could get Allan Sugarbaker, our reviews coordinator, to post a corrected review if you'd like to fix the links. You can reach him at allan AT rpg DOT net.

Fortunately, the links aren't hard to figure out and correct manually. Thanks for the review! I too love free games, toolkits, and light rules systems, and I had not yet encountered 5 x 5. So thank you for placing it in my field of vision! :p

Thanks for the kind words. I used Open Office to write up the review and yes, it messed up the hyperlinks! I'll contact Allan with a revised review and see if he'll post it. I hope to do some more reviews in the near future, time permitting.

Sorry about the links! I'll try and get them corrected, but in the meantime, the links are:
Five by Five: http://www.1km1kt.net/rpg/five-by-five
1km1kt: http://www.1km1kt.net/
John Kim's List of Free RPGs: http://www.darkshire.net/jhkim/rpg/freerpgs/
Chris' Compendium of Free RPGs: http://www.homebrew.net/games/
Hope that helps.
BTW: While 5x5 and Fudge have a few things in common, I find that 5x5 has more in common with Risus and Fate (itself a Fudge-derived game).

Free is good! There's a lot of free stuff out there, and while 75% isn't my thing, there are a few gems.
