I am now in the possession of a Ps3. I own a Ps3. I told myself way back when this current generation was first getting previewed that I wouldn't own one until I could, somehow, end up owning one for 100$<.

I bought a 40G Ps3 today for 240$. Not exactly the 100$ that I was aiming for, but I still got a steal. Tehana needed some last minute stuff for a show we're attending tomorrow, so we headed over to the local ... I don't know quite how to describe Building 19 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Building_19). Take your basic flea market and turn it into a corporate chain and you'll have kind of an idea of what I'm talking about. This is the same chain that got nailed for calling sleeveless white tee's "wife beaters" in an ad awhile back, if you're familiar with random New England news.

Random tangent over. I bet you guys want proof.

System in box still

The price tag (it's hard to get a good picture of it with the flash, without the flash...)

And the money shots.

I'm still kind of wtf'ing over it still that I got it for that little. I've made the jokes about stuff "falling off of the truck" but everything was still mint in box, tape still over the plastic, ties still where they should be and yes, it works. Too bad it doesn't have any games to actually play with it (oh, for the halcyon days of 16bit), but messing around with the free dvd and the network settings, everything seems on the up and up.

Hey, I know that this is completely an attention centric post, but still. This was awesome.

Yeah, I was amazed too. We didn't notice until we set the thing up on top of the entertainment center.

Apparently so, but it was the only one in the whole store we saw. Get this: it was hiding in the sports section. We were walking by, I was picking up golf clubs and joking around with them, and there it was, sitting on a pyramid of soccer balls.

So hey, go try Building 19. You never know.

On that note, anyone got any cheap ways to get a game for the stupid thing? 60$ isn't really in my price range considering only a month and a half before Gencon :D

Wow, nice price on that. Don't let Sony see that they are selling it at that price though. ;) Unless, of course, it is used?

If it was used, all they did was open it up and make sure the elements were all there. Everything - Ps3, movies / demos, Dual Shock - was still in its wrapping and there was even still tape on the plastic baggies holding the cords. The closest we can figure, without delving into the realm of "it feel off of the truck" is that there was a closeout sale somewhere and they were just getting rid of it.

Ah okay. I was just curious since new consoles can never be discounted or go on sale unless the company who makes it says so. It's called a price lock or something.

Now you need games...

I suggest MGS4, CoD4, and Uncharted for a good start.:)

I would, but I've got this totally awesome girlfriend who's birthday is coming up and there's this whole expectation of a present thing, y'know?

Alternatively, damn ps3 games are expensive. Even used.

All the company can really do is threaten to not provide the company with any more product, unless they have a contract.

I don't think Building 19 is too worried about not getting any more PS3s.

Why do people still say games are expensive? Did no one buy anything during the SNES/Genesis era? :( I still recall the average SNES game hovering around $65, with choice big name titles hitting $70-80+ (Chrono Trigger!).

Yes, they're more expensive than the PS1/2's $40-50 era, but still, it wasn't too long ago $60 was near the standard.
