View Full Version : Smart or Not-so-smart?

I was going to call it smart or stupid, but I know I would never have a stupid idea!

OK the question.
I'm in the process (at it for 6 years but nevr do I finish), of designing my very own roleplaying game. Nothing new here I suppose!
I have no resources and hate the idea of selling the rights (to anything I write). So I thought it would be a good idea to create it as a PDF/e-book, that I could market through the internet. This would give me exposure as well as letting me develop the setting/system to my liking. Plus the possibility of building resources to start an actual company (Dreams are good you know).

OK now the question

Is this a good idea?

I've read through the other posts and know that there are indeed others who are attempting things like this. Atmittedly it's not a new idea, I just want opinions from others!

Good now! That sound nice and insecure doesn't it.

Thanks to all who reply!

Francis

While I can't really comment on selling anything via PDF (my stuff is all free/shareware), I've found that putting my games up on the web is a wonderful way of getting quality feedback. I've had tons of encouragement and constructive feedback, and my games are better for it. So from that point of view, it's definitely worth it.

You seem like you're going for a creator owned approach, so you might want to check out The Forge (http://indie-rpgs.com). There are plenty of people who frequent that site doing a similar kind of thing (it's style is not to everyones taste though).

Like anything, put enough effort in and you get results.

Hope that boosts your confidence if nothing else.

Matt

I shall check it out thanks!

I sounded more insecure than I actually am. Thats why I threw in the last statement (but thank anyway for the boost).

Side question! Where can I check out your stuff?

Thanks again,

Sir Francis
