I caught my wife looking at XBos 360s yesterday which fills my withered little heart with hope and joy for christmas. However I seem to remember lots of crap about the "retard" versions etc which are not worth buying. Now I've looked around breifly and I see there is an arcade edition which is probably not worth actually spending money on, but where does it get worthwhile?

I want to tell my wife to get at least a decent version if she is going to buy anything, rather than get a machine that will not be usefull. I noticed the XBox Elite 60gig for with Fallout 3 and Fable 2 and Pro Evo Soccer for under £200. Is that worth it? The Arcade is only a little cheaper, but I don't know how this all works.

The 60GB version with those three games? Sounds like a pretty good deal, but I haven't checked currency conversions lately, so I could be wrong. Just avoid any version that doesn't have a hard drive at all.

Looks good. In Game it's £169 for the 60gig console plus a free game. Then Fable 2 and Fallout 3 for £20. So £189 in all.

Yeah, I would say that a big (well, more then 20 gig) harddrive is a good idea right now as it will soon be possible to install games on the harddrive (that is, not just games you buy over Live!).

Note you will still need to have said game in the disc tray to play it. The "install to hard drive" option is basically meant to cut down load times, rather than let you play your whole library from the HDD.

Also, if you're interested in original Xbox titles, there's a decent selection available for download, and those take upwards of 1 GB each.
