This is probably a stupid question, but I can't figure out what the XP notation in the Monsters & Treasure book means. Most, if not all, monsters in the book have their XP value written with a plus, so "100+1" or "25+2" or whatever. What the heck is the plus?

The description of the XP value at the beginning of the M&T book seems to describe a system other than what was actually used in the book...it says something about a number in parentheses showing average XP value, but I don't see any values in parentheses. It doesn't mention the plus at all, unless I somehow missed it.

I meant to see if this was addressed in the C&C Players Guide last night but forgot, so maybe the answer is very clear in that book.

If you see 100 +1, the monster is worth 100 exp plus 1 exp per hit point. Also, the numbers in the table in the front of the book don't match up with the exp values for monsters, at least in my printing.

Oooh, okay. I did see something at the front of the book about how you can calculate XP yourself, but I assumed that the XP entries for each monster were a shortcut so you didn't have to. Turns out that it's only half a shortcut...you still have to add each creature's HP to the base.

Does D&D3.x and/or 4.0 do the same, or is this a unique C&C thing? My D&D experience is mostly with BD&D (red box) and AD&D2E--I don't remember this sort of thing in either of those.

AD&D 1st Ed did this.
