I've had this odd idea for a game recently and there's a very specific art style that would work nicely with it. I'm nowhere near the stage where I'd actually need artists, so this isn't an offer of employment, I'm just looking to see who does these sorts of things and get some inspiration.

All the characters (and indeed the landscape features) in the game are made out of discarded things. Some that I've worked up so far:
* A refrigerator with vacuum hose arms and legs, rabbit-ear antennae, and a TV inside.
* A womanly shape of burned-out matches, with a chipped porcelain mask and hands made of candelabras.
* Red footy pajamas filled with rusted wind-up toys, carrying sparklers, with a goldfish bowl head.

Dave McKean's style comes to mind immediately for me. Who else out there does this sort of art? I know I've seen some, but I can't remember where.

I don't have it any more, but I had a computer drawing (back in 1998 or so) of Marilyn Monroe as a set of keys in the seven year itch pose (the one of her in the white dress on the grate)

Something I'd be interested in, so when you get to the art commission phase, make sure you do a post:) Right now I do tree > women mingling

but... check links off his site? There's probably a lot of photo manipulation out there in that similar vein. Surreal/photomanip

Been chatting with Northerain a bit recently, he's got a decent line in photo-manipulation going on. Dunno if he'd be up for this, I can't speak for him, but it couldn't hurt to take a look at his stuff (http://northerain.deviantart.com/gallery).

I'd offer myself - it sounds like an interesting project - but my style's more cartoony / computer generated and I shouldn't think I can even approach Dave McKean. Feel free to check out my gallery (http://destriarch.deviantart.com/gallery) too though if you like. The 'twisted toys' stuff might be of interest to you.

Northerain's stuff does look pretty close to what I was thinking. Thanks!

Any others out there?
