Interesting idea, to examine the literature that inspired Traveller and vice versa. I look forward to more instalments.

I read three or four Dumarest books when I was a mere lad, but as with the Lensman series, while I enjoyed them, they never made any sort of lasting impression on me. But I was a rabid Arthur C. Clarke fan then. I wonder how I would feel about the series now, decades later, with my tastes having changed.

I have one question though: How have Tubb's sci-tech extrapolations, if any, stood the test of time?

Great review. I have never heard of these books, I will have to put them on my buy list for the used book store I haunt.

He doesn't particularly make sci-tech extrapolations. The idea of low passage is one of the few elements of such in either of the books I read.

Yeah, I've held off on buying the first four because of that book's existence. It's out of print, unfortunately, which doesn't speak well to the idea of Wildside doing any more.

Ah well, they're mostly easy to find used (or at least the DAW ones are, which cover #5-#31, or something like that).
