I have a question for some of the established game designers and game publishers.

My design group and I are hoping to eventually establish our own game pubishing company and publish the roleplaying games we have developed (for profit and hopefully as an occupation). We are still in the early stages as far as company foundation goes, but our games are nearing the end of the 1st draft stage.

Currently, i live in Nashville, TN and have a "real" job in biotech. But i have always wanted to go back to my small hometown eventually (which doesn't have biotech). My question is this... "Does it matter where a game publishing company is located if you want it to be successful?" I want to know if there are any major advantages to having it located in a metropolis or could i eventually go back to my small hometown to start this company?

Thanks, Rubisco

I don't see why....
The principles for Misguided are in Ohio (at one point Ohio and Nevada) as well as New Zealand. We've used freelancers as far afield as Japan, Malta, Canada, UK, etc.
It doesn't really matter in an internet age.

Now, if you have a great resource like a good printer nearby, you can certainly make use of it.

Location is largely irrelevant. We're based in the UK, use freelancers from all over the world, print in the USA, Canada and Thailand, and warehouse in the USA.

As long as you can think globally, and can get a fast net connection in your hometown, then it doesn't matter where you're based.

Thank you everyone for your input. I more or less figured that it shouldn't matter where i establish given the world's interconectedness. My small hometown is at least big enough to have cable modem and DSL.
