This is for my campaign of Watchers-to-be, set in a Watcher's Academy in Magdelen College, Oxford.

(my players, best not read as there are secrets here)

Tom is our hero. A plucky American, he discovered the occult just last year when he was attacked by vampires on campus. He was saved by an off-duty Watcher, and decided he wanted to help out. In return for his dedication, the Council paid for his tutelage at Oxford. His daddy also went to Oxford, so this made pater very proud, and Tom is driven to be as impressive as his father was at Magdelen. He cannot let his parents down.

Tom took Fast Reaction Time, Good Luck and Natural Toughness, so he's quite the fighter. This will work out well as he's the one getting the DELETED FOR SECURITY REASONS which effectively makes him a mini-slayer.

Eirion is the zeppo. Born to poor, common, honest, hard-working demon worshipping parents, his childhood was a little more full of blood and death than other farmboys'. When he was a teenager, the Council intervened, killed his parents in a sorcery battle, burned his village to the ground, and he became their ward. In return, he decided to train as a Watcher, also on a bursary. He also wants to fight evil to make up for the many wrongs his parents committed.

Eirion has Misfit and Honorable as his drawbacks, but has Nerves of Steel and is highly Resistant to Demonic Powers. His high Life Points also make him a good fighter.

Eddie is the computer geek of the trio, and is also somewhat self destructive. The son of a billionnaire, he is working on his own first mil in the dotcom industry. Always driving down to London, he has little time for his Watcher training, but it is expected of him. His father and mother were Watchers, and their parents, and their parents....but really, Eddie doesn't give a damn. He's far more curious about who is trying to kill him, and why.

Eddie had Resources beyond Avarice, and a whole host of mental drawbacks. But he has Situational Awareness and smarts that will help any situation.

John Chetwynd-Talbot is the Cordy. Son of Earl Chetwynd-Talbot, one of the highest peers in England, he has a few family castles and all the appropriate trappings that come with. His family apparently had some dealings with the Occult many years ago, which may (or may not) explain why they don't approve of the Council very much - intefering dogooders with out a single clue how the real world works. Thus John's not training to be a Watcher, he's probably mostly been sent to Oxford to keep an eye on his less-reputable cousin, Eddie.

John has Attractiveness, the Tragic Love drawback, lots of Contacts in the peerage and Photographic Memory. What's most interesting about John is that his family's blood curse (which has skipped the last few generations) is about to hit him very hard, DELETED FOR SECURITY REASONS. Mater WILL be disappointed.

Their Watcher-Trainer, or Invigilator, Miss Prudence Pryce, awaits them in the library. Next Sunday, evil is afoot, and the games begin!

Steve, wondering how he is going to work all this in....

Interesting.

I notice a serious imbalance of kitty in your series.

I'm curious to see how the "show" plays out with only a single female credits worthy character - especially since the female figure is in a mentor, rather than peer role.

I'm betting it will spin the Buffyverse tone in a very different direction.

Yah, I noticed that too, with characters and with playes. I'm playing in two RPG groups right now, and have some board gaming buddies. That's twelve people I socialise with weekly, and not one of them is female. Damn I hate this hobby sometimes. GAMING NEEDS WOMEN!

(Don't say induct women I know. I don't know any women. That's the problem.)

But yes, the show is quite the boys' club. There are female NPCs to fratenise with, but it's going to be a very different feel. Tom Brown's Schooldays meets Buffy.

Goodness gracious. What a bunch...

(played the pilot's token female, modelling her slightly on one of the female gamers I know... btw, by my reckoning she's liable to get on well with Tom and loathe Eddie with a passion.)

They make Miranda and Eric look positively normal, don't they?

It's funny, actually, to compare British characters made by Brits with British characters made by Australians. You can tell the latter are Brits, is the difference.

Miranda's Britishness (nay, Englishness) only becomes obvious when placed next to a non-British entity, like an American, or a Pylean...

And I note that poor old Travis isn't in the 'normal' list.

Trav was a bracken demon with a troubled past, so was slightly less normal.

He's now become Susan Brackenwood, potential love interest. Eric is still Eric though.

Since when did I become un-nice guy Eddie!?

:D

Steve, should have the character background in 1st draft finalis (as final as a background can be on a show that constantly re-writes backgrounds to ensure liveliness for another season..)
emailed to you later this week.

Scott, what part of "my playes best not read" was unclear there, hmm?

Fair cop. It's what you get when you skim read.

So help me I just pictured Flashman as the leader of a pack of vamps.

And it's making a frightening amount of sense.

Sounds like you've got the makings of really cool game there, Steve.

That sounds like a really fun spin on the Buffyverse. Have you ever read The Chocolate War? It's a book set in a private highschool with a powerful 'underworld' leader. It might be useful for ideas, depending on how you run this. I know it's giving me some useful ideas.
